Yokohama AVS ES100's.. get them and you will be most happy..

Everyone I know that has gotten them has been more than pleased..

They will cause you to drive harder and thus you may wear them down faster... You will notice a huge improvement in traction in both dry and wet conditions..

They are on my car all around and will be purchased again.

My Firestone Firehawk SZ50's were $500, from Tirerack, shipped to my door which is a really good price, I thought, for an excellent tire.

I made the bad mistake of not knowing anything about tires when I bought mine. Although the g-forces are good tires, I wish they were beefier than 245/50. I think I am going to go for 275/40 next time and hopefully 18's not 16s.

I just bought 4 Firestone Firehawks SZ50, with Mounting, Balancing, Alignment Check for $ 665 After Tax. The salesman tried to sell me some Sumitomo but they were charging me $ 115 a tire, where as Tire Rack selling the same tire for $ 83 each. I ended up paying roughly $ 142 a tire plus $ 10 for mounting each tire. I can honestly say that my car actually Drives and Handles a lot better then it did with the GSCs did.

Another vote for Yokahoma AVS ES100's. I have 245/50's in the rear and they have performed well so far. They were under 100 each from Tirerack.

Ok, from the pictures here

the AVS ES100 looks a little low profile. Does anyone have pics off these installed on their car?

Also, whoever has these installed, could you measure the distance from the rim to the top of the tire (trying to get a better ide)

Thanks!

Beefier? why? Can you not get traction?

The difference btw a 245/50 16 and a 275/40 17 (i dont know about the 18's) is 1 inch.. I dont see 1 inch being that much of a difference for you.. Just think you need better tires..

18" is too much wheel/tire for aggressive driving.. and I assume you want to drive aggressively if you have issues with tread width.

By the way, I paid $510 installed for my tires from my local discount tire.. Yokohama AVS ES100's..

I just did lots of research when I purchased my tires. I finally went with the Kumho MX not the 712 there about 30 cheaper a tire than the firehakwks and 50 or more cheaper than the gsd-3 or bf. There seem good. I mean 30 a tires is a 120 bucks or more on what you get. The MX rated bettter than the KD in wet and pretty much matched in in the dry not bad imho. I went with 285/40/17...

Thats pretty cheap, there must be a HUGE difference in price between 16's(assuming thats what you got) and 17's cause I looked at those tires and they were 160 a piece for my car and so thats 640 plus shipping right there. I ended up getting a set of Falken FK-451's for 502 shipped and they got here the day after I ordered them. They are a sweet looking tire IMO, check them out:

I have Kumho 712's 275/45/17 and they are pretty decent just for driving around town. From a stand still, they suck at traction. I have a stock V6 and I have no problem doing burnouts or have my rear bounce all over the road when I punch it. I haven't driven them in the rain though. Thing I really like about them is that they are really quite and do not track all over the road as some tires do. They feel and sound like I had my 16" rims on. The only really good + on them.

When I got them they were on sale for something like $115 ea plus shipping put it up around $500. I took them to the auto shop here on base, mounted and balanced them myself which put me up to about $530 total. Can't complain about that.
