Tire questions, help needed
Tire questions, help needed
I am considering buying a wheel and tire package from slp and i am in need of help. The wheels i am looking at and very much adore are the 10-spoke 17x9 chrome Camaro SS wheels that will fit on my 96' Z28 i have recently aquired. This being my first car at 16 and a daily driver, and paying for the package personally (no i dont depend on my parents), i need a tire that obviously performs well, but doesnt wear to quickly and will get a decent amount of traction in Iowa rain. I cannot decide on which package, the choice is between the BFG G-Force T/A KDW or KD tires. Can anyone help me decide which tire is better for me? I know the KD is a much higher performance tire on dry pavement and wears quicker but i have no concept of the actual differece between the two and if the extra 400 dollars is worth it. Do the KD's wear much quicker or not enough to worry? If there is a better tire to slap onto a camaro please do tell.
Any help would be greatly apprecitated
Thanks

Re: Tire questions, help needed
I can't speak for the KDs, but I have KDWs and am quite happy with them. They are supposed to be better in the rain than the KDs so that is something to consider if you drive it daily. I have also been stuck in some snow with the KDWs and the car does move - definately not a snow tire but it will be okay if you find yourself in snow every once in a while.
Re: Tire questions, help needed
I have kd's 275/40/17 in the front and 315/35/17 in the rear..the KD's are an ultra dry performance tire, so id your looking for traction the the rain those are not the way to go.. they have a tread wear rating of 160 so thats kinda low not alot of tire life.. the kdws is an allseason tire good in the rain great in the dry ok in the snow..i have kdws on my 04 gto i am happy with those tires..the kdw2's my brother in law has on his cobra... he's very happy with them not alot of tires noise ( like you would be able to hear ot over the exhuast anyways) great traction but i couldn't tell you what there like in the rain because he does not drive is car in the rain...but basically if you are looking for an awsome performance tire its hard to find one with good wet traction...
Re: Tire questions, help needed
oh yea the KDW is also a pretty good performance tire i don't know anyone who has them but i have read good reviews about them.. so basically on the performance end the tires would be KD, KDW, and KDW2...allseason KDWS
Re: Tire questions, help needed
im not so worried about traction in wet conditions i guess, staying in town at the speed limit is a decent way around that in one way, but im more worried about how often these tires will need to be replace, is the difference a drastic one or is the shorter life with the KD's worth the price difference of the tires?
Re: Tire questions, help needed
well like i said I do have KD's they don't start out with that much tread to begin with but i havent noticed them wearing any faster than they should with the abuse that i put them through.. It is a very good tire and does grab hard, then again i do have 10" of contact patch but i have no complants..shop around a little theres some really good tires out there for that are not that costly but remember you get what you pay for..and stay away from compition tires if your worried about tread life..oh yea and another thing are you plaining on putting snow tires one your current rims, because that will help you with length of time you summer tires last
Re: Tire questions, help needed
no this car will not be driven in the winter, it will sit in a garage all nice and clean, to much salt up here to worry about. Winter is out of the question. I'm prolly just going to go with a slp package of the SS rims and KDW's
