Tire Prices?

I have the stock rims on a 96 WS6 which are 275/40/17 from which i've read. What are some good tire prices? I want some good sticky tires for driving in the rain/snow. Not sure if I should just change the rear or all 4, they are balding, but still hold up well in the rain because the car is almost bone stock.

Should I just buy the most expensive one? I want good tires... I heard ET's are good, but have no idea what "ET" means. I know DR's are nice, but not sure if they are all weather tires. Just some ideas on which direction to turn too please... :-/

Re: Tire Prices?

if u want good all weather don't get et's(micky thompson e/t streets or drags)...or a set of dr's(drag radials)...u'll only want those tires for when you're racing..or if u use the car for racing exclusivley..if this is ur main set of tires that will be on ur car all the time..you're better off going w/ somethin like a bf goodrich g-force kdw ..from my experience that's the best all weather tire i've seen or use for our cars....i was able to drive in the snow w. them on my beast..which is pretty ridiculous

Re: Tire Prices?

So I should head into a bf goodrich g-force kdw catalogs and just purchase the most expensive ones possible? Or do they go in categories... If you drove in the snow with a 396, then my car with just expectations of headers and cam should do just fine... L0L

Re: Tire Prices?

Do you have a Costco or sams club near you? They have great prices and can order any tire.

Re: Tire Prices?

look into the Kumho ASX's. coworkers went on a ride a drive and said they are an awesome tire. asymetrical tread pattern for good handling and lots of sipes for good, all season traction.

and you also cant go wrong with BFG's

Re: Tire Prices?

I did a lot of checking when it was time to get tires for my SS. My SS is my daily driver, and being that we get snow, I had to have all-seasons. I narrowed my choices down to Continental Conti Extremes or Falken Ziex 512's, or the Pirellis. Even though the Falkens & Continentals were cheaper, most all the reviews I read on them remarked about the sidewall being soft and "mushy" in tight cornering.
I figured I'd pay the extra for the Pirellis being that they didn't seem to have the issue and they pretty much blew away th other 2 tires in all the other ratings also.

I'm extremely happy with them and can't believe how much better they hook up on the street than my original F1's. It's unbelievable! Probably not a real fair comparison though being that the F1's were bald and somewhat weathercracked.

Can't wait to get it to the track now and see if I can get my 60' times down.

Re: Tire Prices?

I have KDW's on my Camaro, but don't drive them in the snow. My winter car is a 1996 SHO, and I have the KDWS on that. When the KDW's wear out, I will likely replace them with Pirelli Zero Nero's, and on the Taurus, I'm debating between the KDWS again, or the Kumho ASX. I have heard good things about the Nero, I have had good experience with the KDWS, and the ASX's haven't been around long enough to ascertain how good they are in winter.

Re: Tire Prices?

Well... I decided to go with 2 sets of tires... The blizzardex? Blistex? L0L The tires that are supposed to be incredible in the snow. And Nitto 555's from like Spring to Fall... I heard DR's are awesome in the rain should be perfect for what I want with the 2 sets of tires.
