Tell me what you guys think.

I did a little photoshop work to see how my wheels would look painted black. Any opinions? What paint should I use?

Looks good. That touch of silver on the outside really makes it.

Re: Tell me what you guys think.

That would be very difficult to pull off with those wheels. There is no transition in those wheels from spoke to lip. So you would have to mask the end of the spokes in a perfect circle to create that silver lip. I'm afraid that would look tacky up close. If you had a set of 16x8 5-spoke rims from a late 3rd gen, then you could pull it off. But not with those rims.

It wouldn't be as hard as you think.

Make a big cardboard (not corrugated, just the single-layer stuff) template -- easy to make those pretty much perfectly round. Use a piece of wood with holes drilled in it like a compass. Affix a utility knife to the end, turn, and voila, you have yourself a round hole. Then make another circular cut (this one isn't critical, you could do it by hand) a couple inches outside the first cut, so you have a donut.

Then tape the donut to the tire, make sure it's centered, and paint away.

Re: Tell me what you guys think.

I painted just the spokes of my 10 spokes at one time. It isn't difficult, just time consuming.

Re: Tell me what you guys think.

I plan to polish the lip up and paint the wheels gloss black with a few layers of clear. As far as masking it off, that'll be the easy part. Thanks for the comments.

Re: Tell me what you guys think.

You may find that the lip is machined under the paint and won't need to be polished.

Re: Tell me what you guys think.

The wheels have already been sandblasted down to bare aluminum. Thats why I plan to polish them. I'll just start off with finer and finer sand paper and eventually polish it out.

I think it'll look great! I am thinking of doing the same thing with mine. I'm going to get a professional powdercoat job though, and polish the lip, then shoot clearcoat over it. I saw basicaly the same thing on an all black miata or something, looked very nice.

Re: Tell me what you guys think.

hey, if you want a quick way to smooth out your silver/white on black look, come clear rear bumper corner lights! pretty cheap and they look great! They look good with a light coat of VHT niteshades too! I did my rear corners and 3rd brake light with vht.
