Switching to 17" Wheels and Tires, got questions...

I was looking for some 17" wheels that would show the brakes real well (they're painted) but I'm also inexperienced when it came to wheels and tires... Basicly I was going to slap on some High Performance Tires, but not too high... Something like slicks, Goodyear EagleF1's, Firestone Fusions, ect...

Here's my questions...

While I was searching I noticed that wheels have different widths, like 17X9.5" or 17X8.5" ect ect... Whats all that mean? and can any 17" tire fit on a 17" Rim or do I need to be more precise? I have a V6 so my tires don't need to be obnoxiously large but the wider the better... What size tire should I be looking into?

The 17 is the wheel diameter, the 9.5 is the width of the wheel from mounting surface to mounting surface.

To a point, the tire can only be stretched so much.

What wheels in particular are you looking at?

If you have 16" wheels now you could go plus 1 with 17x8.5 wheels and 245/45/17 tires with no problems and they would look good on the car.

Any wheels that will show the brakes good... Trying to stay away from corvette wheels though because it's WAY overdone from what I've seen...

17x9.5 is the size wheel most people go with in 17's, tire size I would go with 275/40/17

Are you looking for a 5 spoke design? How much do you plan on spending on wheels only?
