Sumitomo HTR Z tires?

Am looking at this tire on wheel + tire package for $1600. 17x9.5 w/ 275/40r17front, 17x11 w/ 315/35r17 in rear. Treadwear=160, traction and temp+A. Can I hear anyone's experience with these or similar tires. P.S. what does the 160 treadwear mean? Thanks!

the lowwer the number in tread wear the faster they will wearout, usally means a softer compound. The 160 in the tire world means that these tires lasted 1.6 times the test tire from sumitomo. If the tread wear was 300 it lasted 3 times as long as the test tire. this is tested by the manufactured on a road simulating machine

Re: Sumitomo HTR Z tires?

most people i've talked to say those tires SUCK hard.

for the most part, with tires...you get what you pay for.

and tires are the first thing to think of when you want traction....so do yourself a favor and get something good.

i'll never buy cheap or crappy tires again.

Re: Sumitomo HTR Z tires?

i have had good luck with htrz 2's, but never tried the htrz. the 2's hook okay on my cam only cam. work pretty well i'd say. for 315's though, i can buy 2 sets of hrtz's for the price on one good set of "good" tires. there's no doubt they are better but i'm not paying 250 a tire!!

Re: Sumitomo HTR Z tires?

I have the HTRZ IIs. They are great tires for the money. Straight line traction is very good. They seemed to have a little less bite in the corners though, but I only recently got my suspension into an acceptable state; so I need to try it again in the twisties so I can give them a fair shot.

Overall, great tires. Not world class, but definitely great value for the low price tag.

Re: Sumitomo HTR Z tires?

yeah, i'm definately going with 315 htrz's because i can get a pair for 214 versus paying 500-550 for a pair of goodyears or whatever. although, the goodyears are supposed to last about twice as long. Anybody know is you can get the htrz 2's in 315/35/17? i can't find them on the trierack.

Re: Sumitomo HTR Z tires?

This seems like it gets hashed out bi-monthly.

Those of us who have used cheap tires and then tried good tires say we won't go back. Those who haven't can only say they're good for the $ which means they compromised performance for cost.

IMO, why even mod your car if you're just going to go cheap on tires and limit your performance that way? Might as well put a large cam in your engine with stock exhaust. From personal experience, I'd stay away from any tire that can be equally compared to the Kumho 712.

You want a good tire that isn't expensive. Look at the Kumho MX.

At least this time no one is saying the HTRZII is the same tire as the GY GSD3 and that Sumi owns GY.

Re: Sumitomo HTR Z tires?

i just bought some HTRZ's for my bullet wheels, and they are decent.

nothing special, the only reason i bought them was the price.

for Z rated tires, they are cheap.

Re: Sumitomo HTR Z tires?

Spend an extra $25 a tire, and get the BFG G Force Sports from DTD. I could not be happier, these are the best tires I have ever had. I like them more than my KDW's...not to mention Kumho 711's or 712's

Re: Sumitomo HTR Z tires?

Just to add to this, from drag strip prospective. With stock suspension, stock converter and mods in sig I was getting 2.12 60fts. With the 3000 stall and no front sway bar, I can get consistent mid 1.9X 60s. Best is in sig. With great track prep, Im sure I could nail a high 1.8. BTW, these tires need alot of heat to work at the track. Most people say not to bother a burnout with street tires, but then again most people are cutting 1.9s either. Each tire is different.
