Sumitomo HTR z tires?
Sumitomo HTR z tires?
I posted earlier about what kind of tires you guys would recommend and did some researching and narrowed it down.
I have Nitto d/rs on there now and they hook decent but suck in the rain with their shallow tread depth.
The Sumitomos are cheaper(100 bucks a piece), have twice the tread and still have a decent treadware rating at 160. Nittos are 100.
Do any of you have experience with these tires? I have read reviews and they seem to be a great tire for autocrossing even with cars with 400 or more hp at the wheels. I just wonder if they will hook in straight line acceleration.

Re: Sumitomo HTR z tires?
I posted this in the drivetrain forum before I knew this forum existed. A guy just replied and said traction sucked with his 315s. I think people hook the 275s better for some reason.
Re: Sumitomo HTR z tires?
when I had 360 rwhp they were fine and are cheap, now I have 575 rwhp and they won't hook at all. They do last a long time compared to DR and don't throw rocks all over your rear quarter..
Re: Sumitomo HTR z tires?
After using them on a stock 98' GTP, they are better in pretty much every condition then the Eagle RSA's as far as grip and performance goes. But also they wear much faster and have more road noise.
They are on my camaro as well...
As for traction, at 575rwhp not much aside from drag radials or true slicks will hook. Traction in a straight line is determined by suspension/driver even more then tires, so I wouldnt sweat it. Getting the pressure in there and loading everything up just right is very important.
If you want nothing less then the best traction, go with DR's. Also as reccomended, many people hook better with the 275's then 315's...
on a 9.5" wide wheel, a 275 will probably hook a lot better then a 315. The wheel is too narrow and will cause the center of the tread to bow... On a 11" wide wheel either could win depending on driver and setup.
The HTR-Z is a fast wearing good all around tire that is silly cheap. Gets my vote.
