I'm also thinking of getting teh BFGoorich g-Force Sports. I've read nothing but good reviews about them from tirerack.com. If you have the money, you can get Nitto 555's from discounttire.com. I have them on another car, and I love everything about them. Of course, they aren't race tires, but great street tires.
The Firestone Firehawk Wideoval is also in your price range keeping it under $150 a tire from tirerack.com. They are also getting good reviews.

Have you looked at the Wideovals? The pics I've seen the tread looks like Nitto 555's.

I run the HTRs, 255-50-16s in the back. They were cheap and I was in need of tires. I probably wouldnt buy them again though. While they appear somewhat soft, they dont hook at all. To compare, with original 8 year old bald dry-rotted GSCs I could cut 2.27 60s. With these brand new tires best I have done so far is 2.17. I was hoping for 2.10 easy. Its not like I have a powerful car either.
