im almost positive ill be going with these in a few months here for the rear of my car, and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them at the track and such. i want to go a lot and cut decent 60' but i dont wanna go with DR's. the specs look pretty good so i figured id see who has tried them. please dont tell me i should just get DR's either.

They're working good for me. Great tire for the money.
If you're looking to wring every bit of traction out of a heavy launch though... They aren't bad, but not the best either. There's actually quite a few tire snobs in here that will jump your sh** just for saying anything nice about them. I'll probably catch hell just for replying.

I have them and i think they are kind of crappy for hooking up. I bought them coz I needed 315s, and i was on a tight budget since i was in school. They arent great by any means but i dont regret buying them for one minute.
But if youre serious about driving, cornering, launching and you can afford a better tire, I say get the better ones.

Tire snobs is funny.
I just don't see a reason to skimp on tires in a performance application unless you're like FLyin. If you're modding your car for performance are you going to buy mediocre parts? Probably not, but people do this with their tires all the time. You can't tell me your &99 tires are anywhere near the performance of say the GSD3. You get what you pay for.

Re: Sumitomo HTR Z II's decent hookup?
Youre not going to be able to hook up on those super well. Theyre going to hook up about as good as any street tire.
In my opinion, 90% of street tires hook about the same. Cornering grip/noise and other attributes will be more noticeable with some than others, but anytime youre putting over 300lb-ft to the wheels, its going to take driver skill more than anything to hook.
IMO, the only tires you're really going to notice a big difference short of a drag radial are the super soft high performace tread compounds, and with those you're going to be trading off tire life for grip.

well im lookin for people with firsthand experience, not people to tell me they prolly suck get something expensive. just because something is cheap does not automatically make it crap. these have the exact same ratings across the board as Yokohama AVS 100s which are on my friends Iroc and his 305 can barely spin them around a turn and whip the *** end out. like i said, these seem like pretty good tires for the price, but i dont expect to Auto X these and then drive home on them.

my car spins the es100's SUPER EASY
Re: Sumitomo HTR Z II's decent hookup?
i can understand that a bolt on LT1 will roast any tire if you try to, but like i said im going to the track a few times, not looking to pull a 1.8, hopefully a 2.0 tho and i know its gonna be a lot in the driving. i dont plan on dumping the clutch and hoping they grab, if i did id get DR's for sure, but the tires i have now i mean if i jump on it and try i can spin them into 4th gear on a dry road. i want something that with good driving i can pull a resonable 60 foot but then 2nd gear i dont just get sideways. my old Z had just enough power to get a really nice chirp into 2nd then just go. thats what i want but its different now with much more power. understand more what im looking for?
what about the BFG g-force sport tires?

You can do as you wish, but I've driven cars (mine included) with cheap tires, and now that I have good tires and know the difference I'm not going back. Maybe one day you'll experience the difference and know what I'm talking about.
Even on my wife's grand am gt which it not a performance vehichle, I can totally tell the difference between the BFG KDWS (not that I'm a big fan of them) and the Hankook V4Es H105. Its night and day between how well it handled with the BFG compared to how soft it has become with the Hankooks. Plus the tread width is a little narrower on the Hankooks. You'll more than likely find the Sumis are the same way.
Comparing what your car can do to someone's 305 isn't a very good comparison seeing how many 6 and 4 cyl cars of today have more power than a modded 305.

basically you guys are telling me that theres abosulutely NO reasonably priced tire that has decent performance? all the tires around $100-$150 just plain suck and dont come close to performance of a much more expensive tire? and i dont plan on saving longer becuase i think its rediculous to spend $250 on a single tire.
Re: Sumitomo HTR Z II's decent hookup?
Nitto 555, Kumho MX
The tire you show is actually under $100. Mybe by a dollar but even most $100 tires aren't going to be like a $150 tire. Take Kumho for example, their Ecsta Supra 712 is nowhere near what their MX is. For under $42 more each (going by 275-40-17 in tirerack) you can have a much better performing tire.
