Question Sumitomo HTR Z

These tires are cheap as hell.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=2

Anyone have any experience with them? Complaints? I might go with them just to try them out before I get BFGs later on down the road. Unless of course someone has had a horrible experience with them. At least I won't feel bad if they get chewed up.

Re: Sumitomo HTR Z

I have these on my Z in a 255/50/16. They're good tires, depending on what you plan to do with them. I autocross on mine, and for that reason, I hate them. They have soft sidewalls, and too much tread depth. Which causes tread skwirm and throws the car off balance in tight transitions. But if you're just going to drive them on the street, they're a great tire for the money. They're awesome in the rain, have good grip, and last a good while if driven conservativly. I haven't been to the drag strip with them yet, but with the soft sidewalls, and good grip, I imagine they would do pretty well for a street tire.

Re: Sumitomo HTR Z

Well I'm definitely expecting no autocross tire out of it. BUT if they totally squirm out everytime you do something more than putt around then that's not gonna be too good for me either.

On occasion I like to do a little bit of spirited driving up a mountain backroad with some nice scenery. I don't get crazy at all, but I still don't want to come out of a S turn and end up wrapped around a tree because the tires did something ridiculous like get all unsettled at 30mph. :blah:

What do you think?

They'll be just fine for that. I didn't mean to make them sound scary. It's just in autocross conditions, (which is 10x's harder than even spirited street driving), they don't perform as well as some other brand tires. But there's something to be said about those better performing tires, that is they aren't near as streetable. They wander all over the road, and make a ton of noise. The Sumitomos are a nice compromise of ultra high performance and streetability. Get them. You won't be disappointed.

I have them on the back of my car(315/35) and I have no complaints. I cant hear how noisy they are or are not b/c of my exhaust. But they do hook pretty good and last a good while. And when you chirp 2nd, these dont chirp they bark.

Re: Sumitomo HTR Z

I have had them now for over 4yrs and they are the best tires I have used on my 87 IROC-Z. I would purchase them again. Godd grip in the dry & rain with good handling. All you can ask for. Note: Summitomo is the parent company of Goodyear and do their design work now. The Tread design on HTR-ZII tire is just now showing up on the Goodyears with a higher price.

not tryin to call u out or anything but, you really can't compare street tires to drag radials when it comes to traction, of course the drags are going to hook better...

he asked i answerd trying to tell him the honest truth and save him money. just buy the cheapest tire possible if your thinkng about those tires. whats the piont you were on right track just do bfgs can always do just regular bfg ta if you want more wear.mark my words you will regret those tires.if you r car is slow or stock maybe you will like them but on my car even the drag radials arnt enough in first 2nd hooks awsome.good luck

Re: Sumitomo HTR Z

Some people do use their cars as a daily driver and can't be using Drag radial.

It doesn't matter if you have a 300 RWHP car or a 700 RWHP car, if he wants a good street tire, then that is what the Sumitomos are for, not drag racing. Common sense should tell you that ANY street tire is not going to give you good 60' and quarter mile times.

i dont know why you guys are atacking me no crap theres a diffrence. thats what im saying he says in his post bfgs he is thinking about them.and thier are good street tires and summitomo arent one of them just buy visa than its better and cheaper i dont understand how you can say its a good tire?if you want a rock hard rubber tire with little to no traction that is the tire for you!!!maybe if you r car is automatic, stock horse power v6 it wont spin to bad but on my car these tires did nothing. i will stand buy my statement its a fact!!!!!hey bro good luck dont waste your money you wont be happy with those tires.spend a little more i know people runing pilot street tires and bfg t/a thier traction is good there not drags.i have bfg drags was a little surprised about amount of tread i havent tried m/t but guessing thier better.
