So i have 20 locking lugnuts and no key
So i have 20 locking lugnuts and no key
When i swaped the rear ends yesterday i think i left the key on one of the lugnuts and went for a test drive
So now i have 20 gorilla locking lugnuts and no key. Any ideas how i can get them off? Or get a replacment key? What sucks is, i do not have a key lock sticker or anything

Anyway I have HRE's so I can attest to that tool working. But the guy that did knew what kind of rim he was going to screw up so he was real carefull. I tried using a socket and pound it on to the lock but because the lugs are inset I said screw it and decided to take it to a shop. I think Zack works at the same franchise you might ask him.
Hope that helps

yea, we charge 5 bucks a lock here at america's tire. so that would be 100 bucks to bust off your locks, plus the price of new lugs, which is about 30 bucks for a set.
****, I personally would charge a little extra since that is 20 locks getting busted off, and those ****ers ARE NOT easy. We have special sockets, but sometimes they dont fit, then we gotta find a regular socket that almost fits, then hammer the ****er on and hope it grabs
good luck with it
Re: So i have 20 locking lugnuts and no key
This may help, and it may not. But here it is anyway...
When I bought my Trans Am, it still had the locking nuts on each wheel. THey guy I bought it off of didn't send it with the car. I called my tire guy, and he said that if you don't want to worry about them, just hammer on an impact socket, and back 'em off. If you want to keep the locking nuts on there, then I guess that won't help. But, if you want to change over to normal lug nuts, just hammer on a socket and impact them off. Hope this helps. I guess its better than spending 100 bucks or so.

Marcin, when I got locks they gave a card for were I could send away for a new lock. My locks are Gorilas, you want me to scan that card and e-mail it to you?
Neil
edit: got the card, you need to find that grey sticker they gave you with the wheel locks and send $8.50 in for a new lock.

Re: So i have 20 locking lugnuts and no key
Thanks Neil. Thats what i did today, I dont have the sticker so they told me to send one of the lugnuts to them. I was able to get one off pretty easily by hammering a 12 point socket on it
Thanks
Marcin

Hmmm... this is why I went with 1 lock (and 4 spline-drive nuts requiring a special socket) per wheel. Also ordered a second set of spline drive and key sockets as well. One set in the car, the other set... also in the car.
I believe they reccomended that the key's info sticker be placed in the glove-box to make sure it doesn't see much sunlight or rain/drinks.
Best option at this point might be the "hammer a socket" technique... but you ruin a socket with every lug, and there is NO way you'd get it off... so you'll need 20 sockets, a big hammer, and a even bigger breaker bar.
The other option of course is to drill out the lugs from behind. On the front wheels you could remove the hub assembly (make sure to pop off the brake caliper and hang it from the coil springs with a bungie cord or lare wire)... that'd be a real PITA to do, but it'd give you great access to the back of the lugs. The rear you'd probably have to do on the vehicle.
Make sure you jack up the car and put it on blocks before drilling out the lugs. Oh yeah, and make sure you have 20 lugs ready to replace your stockers. Careful or you'll need to replace the front hubs and rear axle flanges as well.
Try the 20-sockets first... then just drill out what you can't get off.
Doesn't Gorilla keep your key info on record for stuff like this? I swear McGard has my info on file...

Re: So i have 20 locking lugnuts and no key
the cards gorilla has are different for each lock. IF Marcin used yours neil, they would send him a lock replacement for YOUR locks anyways.
but I still wanna know how you got 20 locks with one key?! special order or something?

Re: So i have 20 locking lugnuts and no key
Yeah, Gorilla used to sell them as a 20-nut matching set. All 20 nuts were locking... for when you have to park in a REALLY bad part of town.
Guess it stops people from stealing the non-locking nuts if their arn't any... but I've never had my spline-drive ones taken and I've had to park in a few "less than ideal" areas from time to time.
Locking lugnut? absolutely... all 20? personal choice I guess. (it is pretty cool for them all to match I guess... most tuner nuts have a 4+1 thing going on most of the time since the key way is usually visible from the top).

Re: So i have 20 locking lugnuts and no key
All 20 of my lugnuts are keyed as well. But they are also all black, so needless to say I didn't buy them at a local parts store. They were "overnight parts from, Japan!"
Not really that big of a security deal for me, I just wanted black nuts.

Re: So i have 20 locking lugnuts and no key
when my old coworker put lugs on is 5Zigens that went on his EVO, he had 3 different gorillia locks on each wheel, and 2 spline tune 'small diameter' lugs
