Sandblasting Wheels

I have a 95 z with stock z wheels, some of the clearcoat is comming off and i can't get the wheels clean in all area's because they seem stained, would sandblasting and re-clearcoating do the trick? I have a sandblaster at my shop, and figure why not do a cheap fix if it will help the looks. and also, would i need to take off the tire?

If you sandblast a painted/clearcoated wheel - you are gonna take the paint off too. Either recoat the entire thing from bare metal, or live with it.

You wouldn't have to take the tire off to sandblast I wouldn't think.

If they aren't chrome or polished then they are painted.

I don't understand what you are trying to say there...

The wheels that look silverish are painted.
The wheels that looks shiny are not.

This is a chrome wheel.
This is a painted wheel.
Which one do you have? The second one - is both painted and clearcoated.

thats what i was asking, i didn't know that that was silver colored paint, i thought it was jsut a bead blasted aluminum with a clearcoat sprayed on to protect it.

I wouldn't waste the money on the salad shooters, for what it costs to refinish them you can pick up another set of better looking wheels.

ahhhh, ok, that makes sense. I was gonna say, if you had to pay someone to refinish them, I'd just get new ones from a board member.
