Rims and tires

I have a 94 Camaro which calls for 245/50r16 and these tires are very hard to come by. I am just wondering if 235/60r18 will fit without rubbing, I found a nice set of rims with really good tires and before I purchase them I want to make sure they will fit.

Lc1020,

I had a '94 TransAm, and I'm guessing that it had very similar running gear to yours. I tried many wheel and tire places, but nobody had new rims that fit my TA. The OFFSET needed is the limiting factor, not so much the size or width of wheels and tires. Ask at some good wheel shops near you, and see if they have anything, from anybody, that will work for you. If not, most likely the wheels you found will not work for you. I ended up with B.F. Goodrich tires on stock rims, and never looked back.

Of course, one test is worth a thousand expert opinions. Ask the seller if you can try those nice rims/tires on, for size. The problem that I found was that the new tires/rims would rub at the rear fender line, when the car hit a dip in the road. The offset of the aftermarket rims were not enough to clear the bodywork. Good luck!

Re: Rims and tires

Not even close. A 235/60-18 is an SUV tire, with a 29.1” outside diameter. Your stock 245/50-16 is only 25.7” diameter. They probably won't even fit in the wheel well, and will raise the car almost 2” higher off the ground. The PCM would have to be reprogrammed, or your speedometer would read 12% lower than actual speed (example - would read 62 MPH at a true 70 MPH).

Re: Rims and tires

4th Gen Camaro's had 3 16" tire options from the factory:
215/60/16 = Standard V6 tire
235/55/16 = Optional V6 tire & Standard Z28 tire
245/50/16 = Optional Z28 tire
