Putting tires on new rims?
Putting tires on new rims?
My brother-in-law is coming down here for the weekend from New York and he's bringing his old rims from his '94 Z28......he took them off when he sold the car in 1999 (didn't wanna include his aftermarket rims, so he put the salad shooters back on) and has no use for them now cuz he has a '99 SS, so he's gonna give 'em to me if I ever wanted to put them on my car. I still gotta see them cuz I have no clue what they look like, but if I like them I'm gonna put them on my car.
I was just wondering if anyone can give me a ballpark on how much it'll cost me to have my four tires put on the rims. Thanks in advance.

Thats a good deal if they will dismount a set, mount them back up and then balance them.
I worked for a Discount Tire Company for 3 years and it was $20 for mounting and balancing per tire. If you had old tires that needed to come off we would charge more for that, like $5.

I always give them extra cash, too, just for bein' cool.
I got a hole the other day on the very edge of my sidewall, they unmounted the tire, tried patching the hole, remounted the tire, and then it still had a small leak, so they didn't charge me.
I'd take it to a little shop for things like that over the much more expensive Discount Tire.
Re: Putting tires on new rims?
cost me 140 to get my tires mounted on my 18's. Almost had a hear attack when i head that much. 140 for 20 mins of work at the most where the machine does most of the work for you, man wish i had that job.
Re: Putting tires on new rims?
what kind of wheels are the 18's? i mean, id charge around 90-100 bucks myself. price including mount, balance, valves. low pro tires arent exactly the easiest thing unless youve got the experience like me

but yea, something OVER 100 in an 18 would be for expensive wheels where extra extra care is taken

Discount tire used to be a much better place. Its all about the money with them now. Dont get me wrong still a good shop and they have decently competitive prices, but they arent like they used to be.
Its still a place you can really trust, but the prices have gone up.

Just because they're in a corporate office doesn't mean they should be trusted or that they know whats best. Look how many companies go under each year, and they all have guys in corporate also.
Corporate guys tend to look at $$$ and lose track of the people factor (both employeee and customer).

I've seen the rims, my brother-in-law brought them down with him on Friday night. I like them a lot......they're exactly the same size as the salad shooters so I won't need new tires (the tires I bought the car with are brand new, so I wasn't looking to replace them, and besides, I don't have the money) and I found a tire place right in town that my boss goes to so I'll have it taken care of there.......the money thing ain't a big deal really, because when you stop and think about it, I'm getting four practically brand new rims (they're in awesome shape) for free.
