Painting Salad shooters?

Anyone done this? I am seriously considering running over to napa and getting a can of gunmetal gray wheel paint for my salad shooters just for $*its and giggles. Anyone done this? How does it look compared to stock appearance. It will be on a white car, with soon to be smoked tail lenses

Well I'd suggest that powder coating would be a much better idea

I highly doubt that Spray Paint will hold up the abuse a wheel usually takes, probably going to be chipped to hell in week

Powder Coating will also allow you to hit the fins and the chrome with different colors if you like as well

As for the chipped to hell part, the bright side is that if it does chip, you can run to NAPA for a quick touch up. There are more durable ways to go, but if you prep well- clean and scuff up the surface- then there's no reason not to. It's always nice to give an individual look to your car.

do a search, there was somone not too long ago that painted his black - it was on a green Z I believe...

also, duplicolor makes a wheel paint specifically for painting wheels...don't know about it's durability but that's what it's designed for...

**edit** I couldn't find the thread I was looking for, but I did find this one...

I painted mine all black with some cheap krylon paint and drove the **** outta the car...including on gravel roads and I never had to re-spray it. Spray em...I got more compliments and when I told people they were the stock wheels, most looked shocked.

I then upgraded to the zo6 wheels...but this will hold you thru until you can get a new set.

did you sand and prime them first? Or did you just spray them?

If you use the duplicolor wheel paint, I don't reccomend using their clear coat.

I used the clear coat according to their directions and the wheels got a yellowish tint to them. I lightly sanded and recoated with the base coat and am happy with the result.
