Painting/Chroming Wheels

I was thinking about taking my ZR1s off and refinishing myself. Is there any type of chrome paint out there I can buy and clear over it? Has anyone done anything like this or has used any good products? TIA.

Re: Painting/Chroming Wheels

I repainted my wheels. Honestly it was a PIA the way I did it. Trying to strip the primer is hard. They came out pretty good when I was finished but I didn't surface prep enough so they could have been better. What you want to do first is get a stripper, aircraft stripper works great. Spray it on then let it sit (you'll see the paint bubble) then just use a rubber scraper and get all the crap off. For the primer I used a grinder with a paint stripping wheel on it...after alot of hours most of the primer was off. I used Duplicolor primer to reprime, sanded down and hit it with duplicolor silver paint (I'd use 4 thin coats or so) then hit if with a few coats of duplicolor clear (again thin layers 4 or more) Theres a writeup on here which is what I went buy but I figured I'd give a general overview. I wouldn't do it again though, thats how much is sucked. If you do it, make sure the surface is smooth before you paint or you'll see the imperfections. I think theres some pics in my sig of the wheels after.
