Painted Zr1 Wheels

I'm brand new to this forum. Just purchased a dark blue '99 bird. First thing I'm changing is tiny "16 inch wheels to at least a '17 wheel/tire combo. I'd like a more unique look than the chrome/gray/black finishes available. Has anybody painted or powder coated wheels with any luck. I was playing in photoshop and thought that anybody considering painting might like to see different color results on a ZR-1 wheel which seems a popular choice. Possibilities are endless. I think the gold centers would be a kind of cool look on dark blue car? What do you think?

Nope, never have, but thanks for asking. Nice to meet you too? If everyone is as friendly as you in this forum, this is going to be GREAT!!!

This is more like I had in mind with the rims:

Its not bad, but not really my taste either. Are you trying to make it sort of like a 30th anniversary TA?

I would rather have "plain" polished wheels, but its your car.
If you do decide to do the gold, make sure the gold vinyl matches the paint on the wheels so it doesn’t look odd.

I hadn't really thought of the 30th TA paint scheme until you posted that picture. but yes, I guess that's kind of coordinated stripe/wheel color is what I'm think of. Your right the wheel color/stripes would need to be a very close match.

It was meant as a joke, don't take it personal. Painting wheels a complimentary color is as old as steel wheels (actually wood wheels). In fact I have some stock 14" steelies from my 70 that are the same metallic blue that it was.

It can look decent of not overdone.

That color combo would look champ! I have posted up a phot here of a one of one car made for the X-Men movie - It is a 10th anniversary Firehawk that was made or the movie that I saw in 2002 in Canada - it was visiting from California I believe

I think you are on the right track with it, as I have always liked this car.
