Painted ZR1 opinions.

My z is black and I have chrome ZR1/SS wheels. They look pretty good on my car, but the chrome itself is getting to be in bad shape. I want to paint them... Silver, like a stock SS wheel- looks pretty clean. White, like the 30th ann. '97's- could look really good or really bad... or Black, like ghetto cheap-*** everybody else- might be too much on a black car. Opinions please, photos if you got em.

Stick with chrome, or go with the silver. I personally don't like black wheels.

Uhh... no red or flourescent orange... that's a bit too flashy for my tastes... I've got white primer on one now... looks pretty sweet in white, but I'll have to put it on the car and see. Oh, by the way... I've never had these wheels off the car (myself) until today... they had those MFing wheel locks on them... God bless the guy who posted on here to just hammer a smaller socket on them to get them off. Worked pretty good.

Yeah... that's why I'm leanig towards white. don't see a lot of people rocking white wheels. I can always repaint if they look dumb.

ya but i would suggest you find the colour you want

then blast and powder them...... powder if done right is incredible and you virtually cant destroy the stuff

Ok my recommendation is to go graphite....I know it wasn't one of your options but every daily driver that I've had thats black gets the graphite wheels. Here are photos to demonstrate ( I know they aren't f-bodies but these are just for visual examples):

I just did this w/ a couple coats of primer and 'graphite' wheel spray. The stuff is tough and should it flake a little, grab your can and touch it up...it'll cost you maybe $10 for paint.

Thats my 2cents!

I'm actually a big fan of black/graphite/gunmetal wheels but not on a black car...although that maxima does look pretty decent.

I had polished 17x9's and switced to a painted 17x9 and 17x11 combo.
Looks much better IMO. Graphite or black look good on a lighter colored car, but not black. White is only good on white.

Dude that looks hot! I actually decided to go with white too, and with stunning results. The pictures are posted one here somewhere.

I also am not a fan of black wheels either. However, I think gunmetal grey wheels look pretty hot on a black car. Maybe go a little lighter than this guy did.

If not, then a very strong 2nd would have to go to painting them silver. Silver looks friggin sweet. The only reason I would opt for the gunmetal over the silver is that it would make your car stick out a little more, as silver ZR1 wheels are pretty common, and tons of guys are rolling around with them on their cars.
