I just bought some new wheels today that came with tires. Two of the tires are more worn than the other two. So my question is, is it better to put the more worn tires on the front or the rear? Which end will wear faster? Thanks

 

The general rule is to have more tread on the front for safety, since a majority of your braking is accomplished by your front brakes... And all of your steering.

Put the better tires out front.

 

actually, you want the better tires on the rear. helps to prevent loss of traction and oversteer in wet situations. if traction is lost on the front, you can detect it and correct in time

Heh, that's news to me... Was always told the opposite at all the tire shops.

i would say it depends if youre hard on tires or not If youre gonna be laying down rubber, put the better ones on the rear to even em out. otherwise the fronts typically wear faster.

 

Well I'm not too hard on my tires, I was mainly looking to get them to wear evenly for longevity. Thanks for the input guys.

 

not on a rear drive car..the fronts edges wear quicker from steering/cornering,

oh and vigilante, im jealous of where you live. My grandpa used to live in hill country of Paso Robles/Templeton...I LOVE it up there

 

So it's agreed that the fronts will wear faster than the rears as long as I don't do a lot of burn outs?

no, the rears will wear quicker, especially on our cars

take it from me, i look at about 50 cars a day at work and notice wear patterns

fwd cars fronts are more worn than the rears and vice versa for rwd cars/trucks
