Kumho Ecsta MX

Anybody know where to get these now?

I'm looking for a set of 285/40R17's and my local tire guy won't be able to get them till February and last time I checked Tire Rack it was about the same wait.

Tire rack unfortunately does not have them.

Places I've called that do NOT have them:

Tire Rack
Vulcan Tire
Discount Tire Direct
Edge Racing
All the local (Charlotte, NC) tire stores

In fact, the tire store supplier (American Tire Distributors) said they're on national backorder - with no estimated arrival time.

I was just hoping to find someone that had a set in their shop collecting dust - might be my only chance at getting a set now.

Try 275-40-17. Thats what comes on 17" equipped f-bodies and it'll be a more popular/readily available size and not much shorter. You'd never know the difference until you read the side wall.

If you decide to go with the 275 look at the Falken RT-615. Costs less and IMO a great tire.

Upon further consideration - I may go to the smaller diameter tires. That 285 would put me where my speedo wouldn't be off at all and the 275 will be about 1.4% or 1mph off. Guess I can live with that

Anybody have personal experience with the Azenis RT-615 versus the MX's?

No experience with the Azenis but my experience with my MX's has been nothing but positive...Without even considering how inexpensive they are there's really nothing I can complain about...

I've got MX's on the back of my car in 295/35R18 and I have no complaints about them at all. Just be prepared for a little bit of a shake in the morning when they're really cold.

BTW, I bought mine about 6 months ago at Discount Tire in Monroe off of 74.

I haven't had the MX yet, but I debated between the MX and RT-615.

Both have gotten good reviews from people who run them on the track. I doubt you'd go wrong with either. Here is part of my thought process.

The MX has a harder tread for a longer life. I preferred more traction so I went with the RT.

MX will most likely have more hydroplane resistance due to more grooves. RT, less grooves = more tire on the road.

MX is a little more expensive. I got the RT's for $15X ea. from Discount.

MX is directional. Some people are all about that. My preference was asymetrical so I could rotate from side to side at will and not have the tremmeling that directional tires tend to have.

The real nail in the MX coffin was that I am so displeased with their 712's that even though the MX is much better tire, I couldn't bring myself to try another Kumho yet.

I have 275/40/17 MX's on the Camaro I got from Tirerack about two years ago (although support sponsors!). They're a great wet/dry tire that I use for autox.
