How to remove "SS" from centercaps?

A friend of mine gave me a set of SS centercaps for my ZR1s a couple of years ago, but the SS scripts are half gone on them. I got some new centercap decals from Brent, but they're a different size and don't cover up the old logo, so I need to get the paint off without hurting the chrome. I tried scraping it off with my thumb and it's not coming off. What can I do to get that paint off?

Nail polish remover, then try acetone, then work your way up chemicals. Not much is going to hurt chrome solvent wise. Just don't get into any caustics or acids and wash as soon after just to be safe. Those centercaps are probably plastic though so stay away from MEK and stronger solvents.

That will come in handy for my ABS lettering on my 99 TA wheels..
