How can I tell what my wheels are made of?

I have a set of OEM 2002 C5 wheels, the ones that look like the wheel in the picture below. Anyways I am wondering how you can tell if they are Chrome or Polished, Aluminum, etc. I want to clean them up a bit but I am a little confused about what polish to you because there are different ones for different kinds of wheels.

Thanks
