Well, I hate to burst your bubble but the Firestones are discontinued. They were my first choice so I went with the Bridgestone Potenza RE750. It is a very good tire and is supposed to be comparable to the sz50ep Firestone.

I think you will be dissapointed with the es100's. They are good tires but not in the same lever as the others. The KDW's are supposed to be a good tire, but I've never had them to commonent on.

Are you sure the Firestones are discontinued? I've had these in the past, and like them very much. They're a very popular tire, so Firestone should provide a similar replacement. It looks like Tirerack is still selling them:

If they are still available, I recommend the Firehawks. The "EP" means that they should last longer then the original ones. Good price at $137 if they still make them. Better order them right now since they're in stock.

Buy the Goodyear Eagle GS-C 245-50-16. Mine came with those stock and they grip pretty well. I believe they're about $145.

Yep they're definately discontinued. I tried to order them about two months ago directly through the local firestone dealer. If tire rack has them then they must be left over stock. I really like the potenzas. No regrets here.

couple things. If tires are being clearanced (like they don't make em anymore and stores are blowing them out) usually that means they've been sitting a while. Tires to a degree do have a shelf life, the rubber starts to age and get hard and that tends to shorten the useful life of the tire. Another thing is that if you buy clearance tires and they discontinue them and you get a non-repairable puncture you'll be out of luck trying to find replacements. It could cost you more in the long run.

Now as far as your 3 choices, for the price I'd go with option 1. This tire works and works well. Do a search and you'll find tons of people are happy with the ES100's. I recently replaced my 8 year old B/stone S-02's with this tire and am quite happy with them. I personally would have like to get Pilot Sports but they're like double the price. I run the 17" size but it'll work the same even in the 16" size.

I've never been a big fan of Firestone. I know Bridgestone is part of the company but given a choice between a B/stone and F/stone tire I'll take a bridgestone tire any day of the week.

BFG's are good too, but personally for these cars you want to make a statement with the kind of tire you outfit your ride with. A KDW to me is just a performance tire for wet and dry weather. Lots of cars wear BFG rubber and to me it doesn't do anything for me. The only BFG tire I would consider for these cars would be a KD. That's a nice tire and they work pretty good also in the wet.

I can't really tell you which tire to get. It's your car and you should buy what's best for you and your ride. Good luck!!

Tony

Thumbs up

good call. You won't be disappointed with the ES100's. Even when I was checking out tires to replace my S-02's I was wondering how this tire could be so cheap and be rated like a pilot sport or other ultra high performance tire out there on the market. This is a case where you do get more value for your hard earned $$$$ in a product that meets or exceeds your expectations of said item.
