de-chroming rims

i purchased those 10- spoke ss rims from the board that needed to be refinished and was thinking of polishing them. what is the best way to get the chrome off of these rims? they are already pealing all over. just want to see if there is an option other than sanding them down?
thanks
Enzo

I spoke to the guy in the bodyshop at my job. He told me i could sandblast them or sand them down by hand to remove the chrome. I have decided that I am going to paint these rims the only place i found that will do the chrome wants $399 a rim plus shipping back and forth. I think the total came to $450 a rim.

PER RIM?! lol what damn con job!

Send them to http://www.santaanaplating.com/. They chromed my ZR1 rims and did a full-barrel polish at the same time... looks mass tight.

Stripping paint was included in the ~$90/wheel charge, barrel polish was an extra $25/wheel, and I belive they will strip chrome off the rim for a small fee.

You could easily have the set re-chromed for WAY less than what they quoted you.

LMDAO... here's your fricking $450/wheel:

STRIPPING CHARGES
CHROME STRIPPING PER WHEEL (If Wheel Is Currently Chrome) $10.00
PAINT STRIPPING PER WHEEL no charge with order
http://www.santaanaplating.com/price_list.htm#auto

If they can strip and chrome a wheel for $110, I imagine they'd be willing to charge "a bit" less for just the striping. Note that Santa Ana also does other coatings besides chrome... copper or brass in kind of interesting... although they may even do paintjobs as well, I havn't checked.
