Changing tires

Why is it that owners manuals call for the nuts to be hand tightened, and then torqued down after you lower the vehicle (instead of torquing down while still on the stand)? Is it just to keep people from shaking the car (and keeping it from falling)?

nah I think it just makes it easier, b/c it keeps the tire from moving (to much).

^ yeah.. It'd be easier to TQ the lugs with out the wheels spinning.

I just use an impact.. Seat them with that.. A lot easier, eeven though you are supposed to 'technically' TQ them.

The suggest using hand tools and torquing them because the stock rotors are so light that you can warp them easily.
