Boyd Wheels
Boyd Wheels
I was looking into Boyd Coddington wheels. They sure are great looking wheels. Anyways, I am afraid that they would pull an OCC type of deal where they have real good stuff, then after they get all commercialized and mainstream, their product quality would go down.
Anyone hear anything positive or negative about their stuff??

Re: Boyd Wheels
boyd coddington has been making wheels and hot rods forever, and has had the commercialization for decades. His stuff always has and most likely always will be top notched.

Yeh, the smoothies sure are good lookin wheels though.
I think THESE are absolutely beautiful though.
How do you people think those would look on a third gen Z28 with 18's in rear, 17's in front?

.
I have owned a set of 20in B.C. wheels last year. Had them on a 98 Chevy silgecab short wheel base truck with a 3/5 drop. They look great when there clean but they are a bitch to keep clean. Polish and Polish and Polish....
I got sick of them, so i went with 20in KMC Stealth Chrome rims, and never looked back. I love the KMC's

Re: Boyd Wheels
i have a set of old boyd 18x10 wheels five star design the reason i say there the center caps on the wheels are billet and only have the word boyd engraved in them but here is my PROBLEM every time i get new tires the tire shop has a big problem getting the tire to bead on the wheels it takes about 120 psi to pop the tire on the rims what should i do?
Re: Boyd Wheels
3rdgens are not c5 corvettes. pick 17 or 18 all around....
hotrods are nice, many picutres of various cars and angles at thirdgen.org i don't like them because of the star design in the center however it can be removed if delegated so. boyd makes a few nice designs but so do many other better billet wheels like intro, boze, i forged, budnik, etc. boyd is the lower priced wheel out of the billets though which makes them much more accessable. watching his television show alone i wouldn't buy them though.

Re: Boyd Wheels
Whoa, I read a long thread on I think it was PHR message forums about Boyd Wheels, a guy bought a set of 20s and had the tires mounted, but could not get them to balance, took the tires off and the wheels themselves would not balance, cause they were out of round. The guy tried to return them for a new set, but they said no-go after the tires were mounted already. then some guy came on there to reply(from Boyds) and said they are show car rims, show cars don't usually drive, and that the amount they were out of round, was perfectly acceptable. The guy also said when he sent them back, they took 3 months, and then said they couldn't do anything with them.
I know it may have been an isolated incident, but the way the Boyds person tried to play it off...... well if I dropped 3k on a set of rims and some a-hole treated me like that, I'd pay him a visit. Anyway, I would just go for a set of manufactured rims. Cheaper, and you will have less chance of having problems.
Also, if ya know someone in the business who gets them from the factory you would NEVER spend 3k on a set of rims in your life. Considering you could get 3 different sets of wheels AND tires for that.
oh yeah, just my 2 cents.
