Biggest Wheels

I am planning on buying new rear tires for my 97 Camaro, and want to know what the biggest size i can go with in width is. I have 16 in rims, and am going to stick with those.

I found these, Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 (Performance All-Season) Size: 265/70SR16 for 79 bucks on tirerack.com, but don't know how wide i can go.

Also, i don't know if this bigger size will give me better connection.

I don't drive in snow at all with my Z. And rarely go to the track.

Re: Biggest Wheels

For rears, I would think 11" rims and a 315 tire with a 50mm offset to keep the wheel inside the fender, if you went up to 335s the tire would really stick out and bulge out even further than the315s and I had to take out the bump stops completely and a lot of hammering for the 315s.
Here a link with some pics of them.

Re: Biggest Wheels

With the stock 16x8 wheels, 255/50 is as big as you're likely to get, and they're not really much bigger than the stock 245/50's.

Those 265/70's are way too tall - that's like a truck/SUV tire - plus the S-speed rating (112MPH, I think) is awfully low for a 160MPH car.

I would just stick with the 245/50ZR-16's.

Re: Biggest Wheels

There's some place that can professionally widen your wheels, maybe you could look into that?

Re: Biggest Wheels

1. Please post in the correct forum. "Biggest Wheels" belongs in the "Wheels and Tires" forum. I'll move it there for you.

2. A 265/70-16 is 30.6" diameter. Max you can fit with no body work is a 28" diameter. Stock is 25.65". You would have to correct the speedo.... will read low by 16%, and your performance will drop like you put a set of 2.73's in place of 3.23's.

Largest "performance" tire you are going to find for a 16" wheel is 255/50-16. Minimal diameter change, minimal speedo problems. There's a BFG Radial T/A in 265/50-16 and that would only be about an inch larger than the stock tires. But that's an "all season" tire, and generally all season tires are not going to give you the same performance as a tire rated "high performance". If you don't drive in snow, you don't need an all season tire.
