anyone know of a way to repair a rim?
here's the deal, i bought a set of stock chrome firebird 16x8's from a guy on here about back in Feb. for $400. he told me before i bought them that they were perfect except for a small dent on the inside lip of one of the rims. he said it was all cosmetic and didn't have any problems with holding air. i bought them.
they sat in my basement for a month before i got new tires to put on them. well the bent one doesn't hold air. i emailed him and he doesn't want to do anything about it. i also, don't want to spend another $150 on ONE chrome 5 star. the dent is on the inner lip, and it's dented out, as if someone hit a pothole hard. the dent isn't very bad, i don't see why it wouldn't hold air at the bead. it holds air if there is no weight on the tire. but if you press on the sidewall near the dent, you can hear air come out.
anyway, to cut to the chase. I realize that i could potentially damage the rim by attempting a repair myself, but either i fix it at no cost myself, or i spend $150 either way by cracking this one from beating on it and buying another one, or sending this one out for professional repair at Trans Wheel. I bought a dead blow hammer and was trying to pound it out some, but that didn't really do much except mar the surface a little.
anyone got any ideas??? like i said, this is on an inside lip so no one will see it. i'm not worried if i mess up the surface some. should i heat the crap out of it til it's red-hot or something, and then try pounding the lip out gently? i dunno. i just want to avoid dropping another $150 when i JUST bought these and already dropped $400
