Any way to buff out a scratch in powdercoating?
Any way to buff out a scratch in powdercoating?
Tonight I was polishing the lip on my black 18 inch ZR1s. They came all black, but I want the lip polished, so I started with some 220 grit to get the powdercoating off. Unfortunately, I slipped and put a decent scuff on one of the spokes. Does this stuff buff out or clean up with rubbing compound? Any other ideas?

i dont think it will buff out.
powercaoting is just that, it is a power that it baked onto the rim.
if you scratch it off, its gone.
might be able to touch it up with some paint so it isnt as noticable, but i dont think you can buff a scratch out.

Powdercoating will sand & buff just like paint. It takes some work, but is possible. Use a very fine paper like 1500 to 2000 depending on your scratch severity & then compound. Work slowly & sand as little as possible so you do not break through. I removed scratches from my roll bar in this manner.
