I was going to order the 555R's in the exact same size but after doing a 360 in to a pole because of bad traction I went with the more rain friendly tire.

There's no such thing as "just a 555"

THe Nitto "555's" are Performance oriented tires period.

Ones more rain friendly
Ones more track friendly
Onces more road course friendly

But the 555ZR's you can use as a daily driver and get good tread life.
Seeing how they hook "GREAT!!!" I'm happy with mine.
And they are 285/40/ZR17's

besides ... I honestly don't think anything they make that fits over an 11inch wheel base is not going to be drag ready.

yes, the 555's are a performance orientated tire, but they arent gonna provide the same traction you get from the 555R

They do and they don't... so to speak... the 555ZR's pick up in other areas where the other tires fail. It's designed as a super high performance rain tire that you can take to the track and not have to worry about if it rains comming home. It does that job very well. It may not be as agressive as the other versions but it still has the capabilities to perform just as well. I'm very satisfied with them. At the track and on the street they haven't let me down yet. Like most things it just comes down to the driver and knowing how to make them work.
