275/315 tire combo

My dad just bought a 1996 LT4 vette. I am trying to get him convinced to get some Chrome ZR1's with 17x11 in the rear. I cannot find may tire combos that have both 275 and 315 sizes. I just want some regular radials, no drag radials. Anyone have any suggestions??? BTW, I don't want to have to spend a grand in tires. I want something good but not too expensive. Thanks

BFG T/A KD, Goodyear F1 GS and supercar, Yokahama AVS, Dunlop SP Sport 8000, Sumitomo HTZR

they all come in 315/35/17's if you are looking for that aspect ratio

all of those tires listed are 300 bucks a pop. I guess the sumitomo is the only one that isnt. I will prolly get him to go with those.

I wouldn't think you'd want that big of tire in the rear of a vette. Won't it hinder your cornering performance which Corvettes are known more for than a drag car? I think 275 all around would be the most I would do and I like my BFG KDW for a street tire.

Not trying to beat you up over this .......

The 17x9.5 & 17x11 "ZR1" wheels are called just that because they were standard issue on the Corvette ZR1, at the time the highest performance 'Vette.

well, I wasn't saying anything about the wheels, just the tire size. I have absolutely no experience and would not dream of telling anyone here that they're wrong. Just a misconception on my part I guess. Fat tires are hella expensive too.

Very Good Point. We'll spend alot of $ on performance mods and rims then look for the cheapest tires. Just because we know we'll be spinning them out and needing new one's in a few months or a year.

Doesn't the Viper have some really wide rear tires too?

Re: 275/315 tire combo

the only moderate priced tire in a 315 would be a drag radial, and there not for everyone. if you going with regular radials dont skimp on the price, as stated. Cheap tires are cheap for a reason.

Later,
Greg

Re: 275/315 tire combo

well ive been doing some research and the goodyear gsd3 and such are 300 bucks a pop, they are very loud on the road and they dont get good mileage. I have looked into some sumitomo HTZ's which are dirt cheap and they are a pretty good tire. People are getting 15-20 K out of them. And this vette is going to be a weekend cruise car. My dad had a brand new 97 pickup and in the 6 years he had it he only put 17,000 miles on it. Im sure the vette will be even less. And sumitomo is a division of Goodyear, lots of their technology in there tires is barely starting to show on some of the top of the line goodyear tires.
