Yet another stupid, new law for Texas

Searched back and didn't find this on the other law post..

If you have a frame around your license plate, you are liable for a $200 fine.

Have a nice day!!

Yea.... I heard that a chick got pulled over the other day for flicking a nose booger out the window. The cop said she was littering, but let her get away w/ a verbal warning.

IMO, It's pretty damn easy to tell the difference between what is a Texas LP and what isn't. LP frames don't cover "that" much of the "Texas" symbol up top.

I wonder what's going to happen to the cars that have the temporary paper plates. Are they going to get pulled over too? You don't always know what state they're from.

@ this stupid law!

Kind of sounds to me like they're just trying to come up with something to make more money. They say it's easier to find potential suspects, but I think it's something to help them make their claimed "non-existent" quota. If they really want to make money, they should just sit out next to high schools pulling over all the little ricer freaks that speed like crazy trying to prove their car is fast. That's easy money right there, taken from the ones that deserve it, not the soccer moms and other people that bought it from the dealer like that.

I'll have to agree with Shawn 97 Z28 M6.

And thanks texlurch, you have a nice day too.

I really need to find an out of state relative and establish residency there. So many things would be easier with New Mexico or Oklahoma tags. (stupid laws like this, inspection, registration, !front tag)

it really has nothing to do with seeing tex or making money

I bet its just another reason they have on their plate now to pull someone over....

Just like front license plate.. the GS has never had one.. but they still would like to use it for a reason when they need it.. (so far,, not for me..)

Texas plates have a little state symbol in the middle.. not like they need to see the top to know what state it represents.

Re: Yet another stupid, new law for Texas

i agree with the law. i've stopped a lot of cars where i couldn't tell what state the plate was from because of the obscurity. texas has several different license plates, not just one for all vehicles.

and honestly, how hard is it to remove two screws, take the bracket off, then put them back on? i took mine off when i bought the car 3 years ago. i think it looks like azz with a big, cheap, plastic bracket around it.

i haven't written tickets for that yet, but if i see one and i have you stopped already, i'll tell you to remove it.

If you're a cop, is that the best you could do for an id name?? It would seem poor judgement is not just reserved for your position on this particular law.
This law represents yet another revenue stream for local communities and another reason for "law enforcement" to stop someone in hopes of making a bigger "kill". Where in the h*ll did "Protect and Serve" go?

this is kind of off the main subject but did the law against talking on your cellphone while driving pass?

From what I heard, No! Let's leave the idiots talking on the phone, not looking where they are driving (including the cops), but bust the people that try and make their cars look a little better.
Is there a way of reporting cops for illegal and reckless driving? Maybe I should start doing that! There are so many round here in SA that drive worse then normal people. Then pull someone over for doing exactly what they just did a few minutes prior.

Guess we won't be seeing those stupid car dealership tag covers anymore, huh? NOT! Why don't all the pigs raid car dealership lots and write a whole crap load of tickets for ever car on the lot????

Law is dumb. If you can't tell the plate is from TX within the confines of the frame, then REDESIGN THE FRIGGIN' PLATE!!!

Of course, it's easier to just bust on the little guy to make it PROFITABLE

Plates look stupid without a frame...period.

It's not about profit... It's the easiest way for the cops to get the freshest donuts.

After all, it's not like there are murderers, rapists and other general wrong doers walking the streets. Having an obscured plate is a huge Huge HUGE problem. Drive around... Take a look at how many people have license plate frames on their cars. Odd's are, you'll have a hard time finding one that doesn't.

Oh wait... you said profit? And LP frames are now illegal... And a majority of cars have them. Wow... Can't raise the taxes so now there's another way to make money huh?
