Question Where's the best place to go camping in New Braunfels?

Planning a trip to New Braunfels and I was wondering where the best/best priced campgrounds are? Planning on tubing down the Guadalupe and I don't want to spend a ton. Any suggestions?

Lookup "Dwray." I think he's from that area, so he probably has an idea. He'd probably ask you to come stay with him...j/k

im from new braunfels. i would not go down the guadalupe right now due to the lack of rain. there are a bunch of camping site up and down the river though that wont put you out of pocket a lot of money. up at canyon there is a place called cranes mill where you camp right on the lake and its like 6 dollars a car i think. its nice for the money

I hope they get some rain by the 15th because I haven't been down the river in a couple of years. So your saying to try and get a place close to Canyon Lake.

I was just out at Canyon Park this weekend, it was nice but you have to get the right spot. See if 108 is open or call and make a reservation. Other than that theres alot of places out there for arround $10 or less a night.
If you want to tube, go to the Comal via Landa Park... Its alot more fun and nicer in my opinion.

You could also wait for Dwray to stick his head in here. He is the local NB authority on the happenings of New Braunfels.

Re: Where's the best place to go camping in New Braunfels?

As Cody said, the Guadalupe is sloooow right now. However, I'm not really a fan of that river anyways, I'm a Comal River fan.

As for camping, I'm not really sure what's good seeing as I live in a house and have no need to camp in my own town.

There's not a whole lot of camping grounds on the Comal River, unfortunately. I can only think of one place and I don't remember the name of it. I can get it for you if you're interested, though.

DWray, I'd appreciate it if you could try and get me the name of the place on the Comal if you can. If I don't stay on the Comal and I end up on the Guadapupe I was looking into these campsites:
The Lazy L&L
or
Rockin R

Has anyone been to either of these places?

Re: Where's the best place to go camping in New Braunfels?

The 2 you list are some of the most popular ones. Since you're not going on a holiday weekend, finding a spot is easy, just drive up River Rd and you'll pass a ton of camp grounds, find one you like and stop.
For the Guadalupe to be fun, its needs to be flowing at least 180 ft/sec out of Canyon Lake..if its not, you'll be paddling, carrying your tube/ice chest over rocks, etc...its not much fun.

Definitely. River Road is literally lined with campgrounds. You can easily just show up with no clue where to stay and easily find a spot. Try and get there semi-early, though, just to make it easier and find a prime spot.

With all the rain we've been having, the Guadalupe might've picked up, although I'm not sure how the rain has been in the Canyon Lake area.

I'll try and get the name of the campground on the Comal tomorrow. I could've easily gotten it by now, but I didn't see the post until just now.
