What's the difference...

between long-tube, mid, and shorty headers?

Might be a stupid question, but I have yet to figure it out..!

The difference is just as the name states. The primary tubes are longer in mid-lengths than shorties, and long tube headers are the longest primaries. Long tubes are going to net your biggest horsepower gain because of the scavaging effect created by the equal exhaust pulses.

I hope this helps.

This is generally true but not quite that simple. There are several theads in the Advanced Sect. you may want to look at.

Also generally the shorties are eazier to install and remain emissions compliant.

no emissions here in central tejas...

shorties are no easier to install than long tubes...the toughest part is getting the stock manifolds and y pipe off...

Yeah well we have emissions here in Dallas! Thank goodness for catco and leaniancy! Anywho, longtubes in my opinion are often overkill unless you have the horsepower to really need them. I like my shorties but never used longtubes so i guess i don't count. However my brother has longtubes and mufflex 3.5 inch exhaust on his 95 formula with CIA and 4.10's. In my opinion that's to much for a stock type setup!

Yeah the 3.5" exhaust is too much for a stock setup, but not long tubes. Theyve proven again and again to give awesome gains over the stock, restricting manifolds even with little to no other mods.

Without a doubt, long tubes sound the best . Carry on now...
