Smile What is the best, store bought, Octane booster? Eveyone's opinions requested..

I want to know the best octane booster you can buy at stores. What do they raise 93 oct to??? We were talking about this at work the other day and I don't think anything really raises the octane rating much, maybe to 94 or 95 oct.? Now I know some of you guys are going to say "Aww you can make your own out of Xylene etc.", but I want to know about stuff you can buy over the counter. Please any and all opinions.
Bob

I'll let everyone know exactly why I am asking this later. Once i get some feedback.

the most i have seen to boost it up is 7 points, which is .7 so it makes it 93.7

That is what I told my friend I had read before. I just wasn't sure.

I ask because a friend of mine, whose a chemist, and myself were thinking of developing our own. We were talking about develpong one that you could add to 10 gallons of 93 and boost it to 100 octane. I was just looking at what are things people don't like and like about them. I fgure we could come up with something safe and cheap that we could produce a lot of. If there is enough interest in it.

Hey Crash! I didn't know you were still hanging around here. I moved to Dallas about a week ago...near Mesquite, probably not extremely far from you. What have you been up to lately? Still messing with the Mustang & playing in the dirt?

As for the octane question, I was under the same impression as you guys. The octane boosters in a bottle do little, if anything, & you have to use Xylene or Tolulene if you want to significantly raise the detonation resistance.

Store bought octane boost is simply a waste. Go out and buy yourself a nice 55 gallon drum and fill it with gas. You can pre-mix your own race gas. Paint stores and other preformance shops will sell you Xylene or Tolulene by the gallon.

Hey man what's going on??? Mesquite? Heck your maybe 15 mins from me! Yeah I just put a Tunderchicken turbo coupe disk brake 3.55 gear rear in it. Other than that and the exhaust it's pretty much still stock. I still check out this place form time to time. mostly reading now though. We'll have to hang out sometime now that you are here.

Yeah I know about the "not very affective" boosters in a bottle. That is why we are thinking about developing our own. Something in a bottle you can buy anywhere and have instantly 10 gallons of 100 octane gas. We are going to hopefully have some ready in the next 3-4 weeks.

Mixing race gas...

You cannot mix your own race gas. There are other chemical additives (VP) or refined properties (Howell fuels) that do other things beside "raising octane", like lubricity control for one. Also, the specific gravity of the fuel is very important to remain consistent for proper fuel delivery control in nitrous and blown apps as well as for racing in sanctioned events.

Hi Bob and Steve!!! Long time no hear!! You might be able to raise the detonation resistance of the fuel you use and what I wrote above isnt trying to say you cant do that part.

Hey Jim, I didn't know you were still on this board. I was in SA about three months ago picking up a tranny, I e-mailed you but never heard back from you. Maybe it was an old address or something. How ya been?

I'm thinking about buying a '68 or '69 vette in the next year or so, I was just thinking about asking you for some advice or input. I'm leaning towards a big block. It wouldn't be a drag monster or anything, just a weekend cruiser with some pretty good power. You have any advice?

So how is that ratty old pink car you have? Is it running or sitting in your front yard on blocks? Is Al still there with you?

I don't mind spending money on racegas. Hell the 110 I buy for my dirt car is $5.00 a gallon. I am thinking along the lines of ricers, hear me out. They will buy anything that says "RACE" on it. If we did make a cheap "over the parts counter" octane booster that would make it atleast 99-100 octane we could make $$$$! That is what I am looking at.
Save the racegas for cars that need it.

I'll agree with that...ricers will buy anything that is flashy. High School kids will work all day Saturday at McDonalds so they can put a blinking light on their Civic. I've got a couple of ideas that I want to market to them over the net, I just haven't taken the time to develop them yet.

I really wish someone would make a good octane booster to get gas up in the high 90s. I would definitely buy it, the best I can get here is 90 octane. The car knocks a bit with 90 but not with 93.
