Used car purchase ???
Used car purchase ???
I've been looking for a used SUV for my GF and found one which has an add listing a 'Factory Warranty'. We went and looked at it, test drove it, and started the paperwork. She's decided to use her personal bank for financing, so we ended up leaving the car there for the weekend under deposit. Just out of curiousity, we pulled up a carfax for it. It listed the vehicle to be out of warranty by time, but not by mileage. Need some opinions on how to handle this. Surely this must violate some advertising/sales laws or something? Should we just drop the purchase plans, or maybe try to work out a free or highly discounted extended warranty?
Mileage: 26575
In service date: 12/23/99
TIA,
Pat

It has probably been for sale since some time late last year when the warranty was still valid, but since it is already past 12/23/02, it has ran out of it.
Sure, they should've updated their advertising
, but as long as the vehicle checks out good and you like it, I don't think that would be grounds for dropping the purchase altogether.
I'd just mention it to them and try to get the price dropped some, or what ever concessions you can get from them.
Good luck!

Yeah, I thought of that too. But, the carfax report showed that they purchased the car on Valentine's day this year at auction. That's what makes me kind of wonder, and kills any kind of honesty I might of thought they had...
My buddy is a car salesman and he says to argue the fact that the car was miss represented and they should through in an extended warrenty. If they want to sell the car they will do this. If they don't do this ask for your deposit back and go find another car. They will most likely give you what you want if they really think they will lose the sell. Just try it, if it doesn't work find another car.

Thanks for the advice. What really kills me is, I was asking for the In Service Date the entire time, but they wouldn't tell me. I checked out some extended warranty policies and they double in price for a car out of factory warranty.
Off subject
This is off-subject a little, but I just wanted to tell you NOT to buy a warranty other than factory. Don't bother. My GF bought one over the phone from a company called Warranty USA. They screwed her over on her CV axles, which ended up costing her 2200 bucks. This is after she paid 1000 bucks for the warranty to begin with. The boots were torn on the CV joints, so they said it was her fault the joints went bad because she drove around with the boots cracked. Like she knew that. Now, Warranty USA has filed Chapter 11 because 13 states filed civil lawsuits against them and won. My GF has been waiting in line for her settlement for about 2 years, now.. I don't think she will ever get it.
Oh yeah, don't buy anything from this guy. He's obviously a liar. Also, don't buy an Explorer. They're pieces of dung.

Thanx for the info. We've decided not to buy the car at all. Since they can't conduct business ethically, then we're not going to do business with them at all. If we didn't ask for the info, I would have to assume the blame due to ignorance. However, withholding the truth from a customer, especially after numerous inquiries, is plain deception. To save anyone from the hassle of that dealership, here's the info:

Interesting to know that a fairly big dealer would do something like that. That's the one right next to Classic Chevy, right?
Oh well... One less dealer to go to when ever I'm looking for a new vehicle.
