Stroker Choices 408 or 422?
Stroker Choices 408 or 422?
Okay since my motor is gone I need a new setup. I've gotten a price for the 422 and it's pretty good. Now if money is not an option, what kind of setup would you get? Right now I'm also leaning towards a 408 stroker on a cast iron block. Anyone have any opinions on what else I should look at like maybe an all bore 388? Thanks.
Mostly track now with an occasional cruise on the street. Speed Demon Motorsports in Houston is building and blueprinting it with a used block. I eventually want to supercharge, hence the 408 iron block but that's still up in the air. That's why the 422 is an option as well, NA would be pretty nice too. I just want a little room to improve on performance in the future.
If money isn't an option I would rather go to MTI...they have built the fastest and longest lasting 422's continuously...havent heard of any big motors out of Speed Demon ...YET! The only prob is that their waranties do not cover you if you use a power adder...food for thought

True and they (MTI) have a 2 year 24k warranty. I'd probably run the motor first and then charge it later. I'm not sure what kind or if I'll get a warranty from Speed Demon. They have to start somewhere though and I'm willing to take a chance on them.
I have had some experience with them, they tuned my heads and cam setup....the car runs alot better but still needs more tuning, just waiting on their tuner to get back, so they can be completely done with it. Their service though was preety good and they are all very friend and extremely knoledgeable!

I think Chris K. finally got the tuning down. I used them for my heads and cam on seperate occasions and the tuning could have been a little better. He does fix a lot of the little problems and pays great attention to what needs to be done. The other Chris (tuner) is out of the state doing his real work and dabbles in the tuning, but is great. Before the engine blew my car was running better and stronger than it ever had. Chris K. has a new shop, same complex just bigger, and is doing some pretty impressive work. That's why I'm intent on getting the stroker built by him. It's also a work in progress so it will be nice to see what kind of power and times it will put out.
for the 350 bucks i paid i am not happy yet with mine either...BUT, they seem to be eager to fix the problem so I am not gonna sweat it...just gonna give em a few stabs at it

If you want to stay N/A or using a small power adder, I'd definitely go 422.
If you are going with a healthy dose of spray or big boost from turbos/supercharger...then go the 408 route.
Either way, you can be fast. Personally I always have preferred seeing a fast car be fast naturally...but to each his own.
Bottom line: Set your goal. Then make a plan to reach that goal and stick to it.
I remember meeting you @ sonic few week ago i had my green T/A out that night (396 w/ THE WING)
how much horsepower do u want?
MTI 422 is like 20k for 525hpN/A give or take (w/24month warranty)
LPE has 3 year warranty on there 427 500+hp w/a smooth idle
not lopein like MTI's setup
that means you have better driveabillty
both will not warranty use of n20 or a blower
I lean towards LPE over MTI because LPE makes better Street cars
but if you want to just shake the ground MTI can make a hell of a race car
i like to be the sleeper. no one knows what hit them
hit me up and let me know what you think
Bryan
i still say if you got the cash LPE ALL THE WAY

BloodZone: is your sig upto date? That seems like mighty high times for your set up, not knockin it, just seems like you could be alot faster. What was your 60ft on that 13.2?
FYI-my best is 13.3@101 and 1.8 60ft with sig.

Sixty foot was a 2.29 on 17" wheels and Firestone Firehawks. I didn't have the SY3500 in yet or the welded LCAs. I ran that with the heads and cam but had only been to the track twice. The stock verter was also bogging really bad off the line.
Damn Ben...what happened to the old motor?? I haven't been keeping up with the posts on here, so sorry if you have to repeat the bad memories, hehe (and I've been there before, so I understand). As far as your choice for a motor...I'd sit down and think about where you're gonna go with your car. I like forced induction and nitrous as much as the other guy...but getting your a$$ handed to you by an all motor car is the shiznit!! After school is over for me, I'll be building a 382 (iron block) with an Axis TT set-up....can't wait!!
