Unhappy So, what were you doing last night at 7:30 ? I was busy doing a sliding 360 on 59 !!

Yup, that's right.

I was NorthBound on 59 at about Bissonnet when somebody decided they liked the lane I was in more than I did. This was the far right hand lane.

So, I hit the brakes & swerved. I do not know if I hit gravel on the shoulder, or overcorrected, or what , but next thing I know I am hanging on as the car is sliding & spinning across three lanes of traffic !

Mind you, this is on dry pavement !!

I remember thinking "Ah, crap. How much damage is this gonna do ?"

Too dumb to be scared, I suppose.

The right front wheel wound up kissing the far left lane concrete barricade, and then the right rear tire & bumper nailed it as well.

Right front wheel is destroyed - looks like the control arm may have got it, and for sure the tie rod.

Right rear wheel has serious road rash, and there are "kisses" from the concrete on the front fender, fascia, and on the rear bumper it looks like someone took a grinder to the corner.

I must have popped an ABS sensor, too , as the warning light is on in the dash.

Fortuantely , I am O.K.

Nobody else slid into me during my "excitement" , and Allen Samuels was open last night , so we got her towed into the body shop.

(A wrecker pulled up within about a minute. Also, 2 people who saw what happened stopped to ask me if I was O.K. - damn nice Houstonians, indeed ! )

I called this A.M. , and the guy I spoke w/ feels from a quick walk around that there is no frame damage - it appears to be cosmetic.

Be careful, guys - this could be any one of you out there, and I always thought I was a pretty good driver. It would seem that are still situations that can get above & beyond my control ...

And, no - no booze was involved, or rain !!

Britt

I hope Allen Samuels will do a good job - they were the closest, so that is where the car went !

The guy that did the tow was actually off duty - but, he decided to go haead and hook me up to make a few bucks on the side !

If it is truly cosmetic - w/ the exception of the right front tie rod, and possibly control arm - then they should be able to fix it w/o a problem.

Crazy, stuff, though.

I highly recommend avoiding this kind of activity if you can help it !!

You drive in Houston long enough, shazbat like this is almost bound to happen.

damn... i know what thats like!

I had a mini truck and was a courier (about 8 yrs ago).. going on I-45 by the I-10 interchange @ downtown, some guy kicks up tire schrapnel, it grazed my new tires side wall and during mid day (before parking lot traffic but when there are tons of cars on the road) and blew the tire out! I started spinning at 70+mph with cars all around me.. Lucky for me, I was able to get it under control and get the truck pulled over...

Goes to show.. You never know!

I still say we should have a CZ28 meet for the Htowners here at my restaurant! hehe (28% off! heh)

I have met Brook already and would like to meet more people with the same addiction! (this website and F-bods!) hehe

let us know what the damages total up to!

Glad to hear your okay and sorry to hear about the car. Hope the body shop takes care of you. I did the same thing on HWY 6 a week and a half ago. Interestingly enough, the body shop also said it was only body damage. Maybe these cars are stonger than most people give them credit for.....

About them being strong - I have heard some wipe out horror stories where people have walked away.

So, how did your incident happen ?

I also see (now page 2 ) that a guy over in the LS1 Tech section "pranged his kite" , too.

I think that 4th Gen OEM wheels in unblemished shape may become collector's items in the future at this rate.

I'd advise investing NOW , and beating the rush !

I am glad you are OK. It could have been a lot worse. You can fix the car. At least it wasn't totaled. You walked away from it, that's all that really matters.

2 nice concerned citizens did , but not the cause.

Of course, if said person was distracted, they may have never known what they caused.

I agree w/ you, Zepp , on the walk away part.

Totalled or not ( still have not heard from 'em) I am O.K.

My pride is damaged, though.

Thak god for uninsured motorist insurance! The guy that wiped out the driver and passenger side of my Hawk took off. No chance in catching him since it took the cops 2 hours to get the. Mine should be done on Wednesday.

Anyone know the exact location for Firehawk decals?
