Whoever, doesn't matter who it is: I need $400 of port work done. Don't need oversized valves, was told to avoid 3 angle valve job if not rebuilding, so don't need that.

I'm doing heads and cam and I need any of the above 3 to replace my springs and valves, and port and polish the heads.

Lloyd or Ryan I think they are a little closer to you. I've never seen Ryans work but I heard its top notch from the people he has worked on their cars. Lloyd is a excellent porter but not sure what his schedule is like. I could do them for you in about 2 weeks from now. LMK either way who you are going with.

If you feel comfortable discussing it here its fine by me. I realize that flow numbers aren't the end-all-be-all head characteristic so I just need $400 or port work done.

To be quite honest, I'll probably go ahead and have Lloyd do them but I want to accomplish 2 things throughout this whole ordeal:

1) Find the best deal available to myself

2) Give each of you the opportunity to tell me your process and what you personally feel you're capable of consistently.

I read it. I posted in the LT1 Tech forum about my budget issues.
I have received 2 replies, both very helpful right now.

One is saying wait until I have enough to do everything I want to do. The other is saying do some modding, which is half of what I was going to spend anyway.

Based on the responses, I'll decide what I should do. I couldn't keep shortchanging my budget, most of the stuff I needed I cut and still looks grim.

Right now, I'm thinking of just running some shorties, replacing my starter (broke) and intake elbow (ripped), and doing a Tune-Up. That alone runs me about $625. Then, with $400 port work, $80 for valves, $75 for valve springs, I'm fastly approaching my budget limit. I'll let ya know either way.

Don't forget gaskets and valve stem seals and all of the other little things that go along with it. Good luck. I've seen work from Lloyd and Smoke t/a. I've ridden in Joe's car and I know what kind of cars Ryan builds so you really can't go wrong with any of the above choices. I would consider at least getting bigger valves if you can budget it. That's one thing I didn't do and I wish I would have. You won't be dissapointed.

If it were me i would wait till you have money to pay for every thing you want. Don't skimp on the little stuff cause you will aways regret it later. I know form exerience! But out of all 3 of up i would have to say lloyd is the most expreienced and qualified one to do the porting job. I can hold my on though. I think fixing all your current problem areas would be a good idea before you start tearing in to the motor. Just my .02$

Well Ryan, what I need from you is to "put everything back on".
I took all of those sensors and crap aloose such a long time ago that I don't remember where all of them go.

Let me know when you're available to do that. I've decided to just replace the stock exhaust manifolds for now, the manifolds were a pain to get off, super restrictive, so I'm just gonna pick up some headers.

Do you charge extra to put the "other stuff" back on? Like the water pump, fans, that type of stuff. I'll do it, just need your help as far as the lines and hoses. Wouldn't want my heater core hose going into the TB.

You can give me a call at work today from 7:30AM until 4:30PM and we can discuss it. My work number is 828-1155.

In regards to the heads, I just shelled out $400 to get my heads resurfaced, pressure tested, and cleaned, so I have invested alot of money in these heads. They are 93 heads with 68,000 miles on them. I'd consider buying the others but It'd have to be a reasonable deal seeing as how I just spent $400 on the pair I have now.

Still battling rust with regards to the engine. Any tips on how to get that under control? I turned the engine by hand 2 days ago and its not seized. I DON'T think I wore any rings, but I still need to buy a compression tester and do a test. I coated the cylinders with oil to cut down on the rust, but the other holes and the mating surface of the block is still getting SURFACE rust on it.

I want to try and get this done by next weekend at the latest. In the meantime, I'll try and clean the block and intake up a little more and do a last minute double check on everything I need to get it running.

Edit: If/when you call me at work, ask for Aaron.

Also, can you reuse a head gasket IF the engine was never turned over? I started putting everything back on, but was advised to take it BACK OFF to avoid having the rust in the cylinders wear down the piston rings. I took the heads BACK OFF, and placed the gakets back in the box. They were "moist" some how, don't know if the rain soaked the blanket I had over the block and seeped in past the heads on to the gasket or what, but I want to do everything right this time around seeing as how the guy who sold me the car screwed me.

After I tore the top end off, I noticed that something had already been done to the engine. The timing cover has some red RTV on it, shoddy job at that, the bolts on the back of the head were stripped, and the gasket was already blown, he just changed the oil right before he sold it to me. The temperature didn't surge when I test drove it for 15 minutes, but anyways, I'd like to start over with a stock quality block.
