Shipping car east coast to tx

Okay I kinda have a company so far to ship my car to here in San antonio, now I need some help, have my drivers license already switched to a texas one, I got some decent quotes from Progressive, but got a lower one from Geico, on the web that is. My car's title is in my dad's name and he's the listed as the only driver on the insurnace in ny. So how do I proceed in getting everything set to my name, title, insurance over here in good ole texas? Should i have my car shipped here 1st, have him mail me the signed title to me and then get the insurance switched to my name. How do I handle it at the DMV, with the title?

Btw, if you have any shipping companies ur recommend, let me know.

thanks

First off you need to get insurance on it. Then get it inspected here in Texas, also go ahead and get drivers lisence changed over. Texas will not do a title transfer (out of state) with it being inspected in Texas first. Depending on where you are moving to, Some of the bigger cities have emission testing. To get the title changed over, they will give you a form for your dad to fill out releasing him from the vehicle and you signing it at the bottom. After all is said and done, tey will hand you your new TEXAS (lol) plates and registration sticker.

You'll need the signed title to apply for a Texas title. one of those auto title places will probably handle all the paperwork and registration for $100. just make sure your shipping conmpany has been around a while and has insurance. When I had my 65 shipped from VA they dinged up both fenders and shortly after I received the car I couldn't get ahold of the driver or the company. Ended up having to get it fixed myself.

Dude you should have asked me first lol just do it the way I do it with connecticut. Have pops sign the title over to you now when you go to switch it over to texas say that the car was given to you as a gift. Basically so you wont pay tax on it, its almost like here when you goto DMV in Texas they will give you TEMP plates so that way you can take it to get inspected. Just have to have insurance on it first before they give you TEMP plates once thats done you should now have everything all set.

EDIT : Get the insurance on the car first Josh.
