Exclamation Raising Gas Prices

I'm pretty sure that everyone here can pretty much agree that the raising gas price is getting "out of hand". Not to mention, out of pocket! I recieved an email from several people on my contact list all saying the same thing. They all said that if for one day no one bought gas, it would cost the oil companys billions (6.4bill) to be exact in stockpiled oil used for gasonline. In addition it would thus lower the price of gasoline. The email orginated from an assistant executive to the president of one the large gas companies. I figured the calculations had to be correct. It'd be nice to fill my car up with 93 for less than 35dollars. Anyway, in all the emails I got, they all said that the desided day to do such thing was May 19th. I'm not sure that EVERYONE would do it, but I'm going to, and I asked about 90% of the people I got emails from, and they said they were going to as well. I figure if I spread the word a little more, maybe more people would do so. Sorry if this post is not allowed, I just thought it was a little bit of interesting information.

Its a internet/email scam. Do it if you want, but with the proliferation of this don't you think the gas companies would be wise to it by now?

There is no way that would work. Even if no-one actually bought gas that day, people would still be going about their normal daily activities, so the gas would just be bought the day before or the day after. Weekly and monthly profit would not change one bit.

I have heard of a plan that could potentially work though (it will never be put into action though, so it wont work either). A large scale boycott off the two biggest players - Shell and Exxon. Buy your gas elsewhere and force them to lower prices. Once the big fish lower prices, the little fish will follow...

When gas prices hit $5/gal will you be satisfied that everyone else is paying that much?

I find that a poor excuse.

Other countries pay more, so we should too ???

Considering our usage and our local industry/refineries comparied to most other countries, I would hope that we would pay much less.

What I'm saying is, in today's society in the united states, in my profession, I get paid way less than other in my area, hell even in other areas. So, I understand the raise in gas, it's been like this in the past, just never this high. It's hard for me, and some others to get to work to make money, much less to pay for the gas to get to work. Not everyone lives 5minutes from their job either. I have to drive almost 30minutes to get there. I know having a TA is responcibilies, and I have to pay more for the gas I use to keep the car in the best shap it can be. Buy why pay 2.08 a gallon when I can only put 5 bucks in? What is 5 bucks? 2½ gallons? I know some places cost more for gas. But not everyone pays by the gallon, some pay by the liter, but you know how much a killometer is compared to the gallon? Like Germany, it's almost 14mark a liter. But look at the mark. 5mark=1dollar. So, for 10liters you have to pay 50mark. If 5mark=1$ then that's only 10dollar. Not to mention 1gallon is 3.78Liters. So you are looking at an average of $1.57. That's all calulated by head. But you see what I'm saying. Those figures in the email are JUST for Texas. If it's just for Texas, imagine what if would be like in more populated cities. Hell, they are talking ont he news that truckers might be going on strike. You don't realize that raising gas prices not only mean more money to go places. They are talking about a raise in price in anything that is shipped. Companies pay for stuff to be shipped. I work for a company that builds hydraulic cylinders. And it takes money to ship them. If it costs more to ship something the price of that item WILL increase as well. Sorry if I'm going off on a soap box, but I'm just tired of people ignoring what might be important. Granted ONE person isn't going to make a splitting difference, but if we all stand together, who knows, you think history was changed over night? It took 2½ years for black people to have the right to vote, wemon as well. Here lies our time to shine. Speek your voice and it will be heard. Sorry for rambling. Today I turn 21, and I'm a tittle lipsey. I mean a little tipsey! PEACE I'M PASSING OUT NOW!

Seriously tho...I'm tired of hearing people say "well, people in the east pay $x amount so we should be content." Uhh...this isn't Europe and I'm tired of spending more of my disposable income of fuel.

Ditto Tim.

He's got a point...tho I'm not sure what it is...

If you want to cripple the gas industry, STOP DRIVING YOUR CAR. otherwise they will continue to grow.

We are barely just beginning to pay the price for our lack of quality public transportation systems. For most folks, the bus is not a viable option. Here in SA there is very little carpoling going on, no El train, no light rail, no subway (other than the sammich shop), etc... Other than riding a bike, we WILL be buying gas.

Dont blame the whole gas/oil industry. The big boys sure arent sharing the wealth with the rest of the industry. Drilling contractors day rates havent increased in approx 5-6 years... they've actually decreased by quite a bit.

My answer to high gas prices

The gas prices will come back down eventually, then go back up, then come back down.

My answer is my Duramax. 25 gallon tank and $40.00 a tank. Not bad considering it's almost that much for the SS.

God bless diesel. $1.59 a gallon.

They are expected to keep rising. I doubt you'll ever see gas for $1.00 or even $1.50 a gallon again...

So, when are you getting the bike

Never, I'd either wreck it or kill myself, perhaps both.
