Need Help on taking off Drum brakes
Sorry Could't find an appropriate place to place this problem that I need help.
Sure seems I can't find a definate web page tutorial on how to take this Drum brakes off.My buddy needs help on taking off the drum brakes off a 91 GM 1/2 4X4 and we looked for the small insert in the backing plate to insert a flat screw driver to push off the drum, but seems theres isn't any one visible.Disc's I know how to do,but these weird drum stuff I taught I knew.Any thoughts on where to look? Thanks

Re: Need Help on taking off Drum brakes
Hello
1. Ensure the parking brake is off
2. Get a big hammer give the drum a couple wacks
3. Use a little WD-40? PB Blaster around the stud contact area.
4. Look at the front of the drum. There should be some threaded holes(between stud holes) thread bolts into the holes to push the drum off.
5. Hit it with the hammer again

Thanks for the help..I was thinking of baging the drum of,but I said to myself I might brake something.I don't recall seeing any treaded holes between the studs but I might not remeber.I will try this tho. Thanks
Re: Need Help on taking off Drum brakes
You could also try shimming it off that's what I do. It's not supposed to be on there insanely tight they're supposed to align themselves to specs. Leaving a small gap between the shoes and the drums.

The hole is in the drum itself , not on the backing plate.
I have never seen a GM drum w/ threaded holes personally - that is more a Japanese trick, but who knows ?
Note that the "hole" is actually a knock out plug, and may have never been removed.
You will see the edge of the seam where it was pre cut.
Hope this helps !
If not, a Haynes is pretty cheap, and a good investment for future work.
