I'm trying to track down the source of an EGR DTC and before I spend money on a new one I was hoping to step through some of the test steps for checking an EGR but I need something along the lines of a TECH II, I don't think the little orange scanner that autozone sells does much more than give the codes.

I have a stuck egr valve code but when I took it apart to clean the EGR it opened quite easily so I'm thinking I need to do a little more in depth trouble shooting.

I really don't want to throw new expensive parts at the problem if I don't have to, any help or advice is appreciated.

what code exactly are you getting?
