Need Advice - When to Say "Enough is Enough" (Time to Sell!)

I have a '97 A-4 Z-28 with 142K on the clock that is currently nothing more than a 3600lb paperweight sitting by the curb. The car starts and is driveable...however will not shift past 2nd gear. Originally I had the highest hopes of restoring this car but now those hopes have faded. After spending thousands of dollars on this car over the past few years I think this is the fatal blow.

My question is this: Is it better to rebuild the tranny then sell or simply sell "as is"? Am I correct in assuming that in spending $1,500 - $2,500 for a tranny rebuild, I will not be able to sell the car for for that much more than if I sell it now (given the mileage)? What is the best way to sell a '97 Z with a crapped out tranny? Ebay? Autotrader? Junk Yard?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Hank

I will get some pics up...

...when I get home from work this evening. There are no mods, car is bone stock. Car has crack in windshield & dashpad, tires are brand new, body is in pretty good shape for its mileage, original engine & tranny. Car is polo green w/tan leather(seats are begining to show tearing), t-tops.

Sounds just like mine! ha Id really look into getting a used tranny off of here or LS1tech. You can usaully find em pretty cheap. If i remember right i sold my 4L60E with about 5,000 miles on a rebuild w/ a hughes racing 3000 stall for like 600ish. Hell the damn converter was 525 new! Just got tired of that stuff sitting around and a guy asked me if was selling it one day made an offer and brought the cash. And thats what happens with alot of 4L60E's lol

Wow, thanks for all your responses! I will definitely be selling the car. I think maybe I will get it towed somewhere where I can get it all cleaned up and stored safely, take some pictures, and post 'em up on the net somehwere (maybe autotrader.com). I will definitely follow up with a post on here shortly once it goes up for sell.

Don't wash it and don't do anything to it. I want it today. I have cash and there is no need to clean it up. I have a transmission and a new motor for it. Just sell it to me.
