I've been looking into this for about a year now. I've done research and asked many people the same question. Most bikes are going to be "fast enough". One of the best option is an early 90's Kawasaki ex 500. It puts about 50 hp down, should run about a high 12 low 13 in the 1/4 @100 mph or so, is reliable, cheap to insure, easy to work on, and inexpensive to buy. I have priced a couple: 93 with 16k miles for $2000 and a 95 with 12k miles for $2500. these were boyth in the Austin area about 1-2 months ago. If you are lookng for a new one, they are now called Ninja 500's and go for about $5000. Good luck,

Kyle

Next you're gonna be looking for a back-pack and a nice little coffee shop to go to... Austinite.

Cool

I've got one you might be interested in. It's a little on the tame side but that's what you said you wanted. It's got a good set of Scrambler tires on it (16 X 2.125). It's the Gremlin model bike. It's one of the best bikes put out by Schwinn. The beautiful thing is that the seat is adjustable so you can grow into it and the training wheels are removable. It's top of the line. My son (6 yrs old) is moving on to a Jr. Dragster build later this year so he gave me the go ahead to sell the bike. He said "sell that damn thing would ya!? How the hell am I going to build a dragster in here with all the bullsh*t you have laying around!" The kid's a real kick in the *ss. Anyway, enough about him. You want that bike right? Make me an offer. I'll ride it up to you if you're a buyer. I figure I could deliver it to you by.....say...November 18th if I left tomorrow morning. Let me know. She won't be around here long. The kid will sell her or set her afire here in the next few days.

Sorry Eddie, I couldn't resist.

Z28pwr, if Eddie isn't interested in it, I may be interested in December if you still have it. What kind of price would you be looking for?

We can do a straight up trade for a Ducati or an R1.

Its a sharp bike sadly I can only look at it while I wait to get a brain bumper.

Who's up for knee draggin'?
