looking for 3.73/4.11 rear end

My posi unit gave up last nite and I am weighing my options of what to do.

If I can find a good working stock rear at the right price with 3.73/4.11's, I would be intersted in just slapping that in there for a pass or two (until it breaks).

If I can't find one quick, I'll just have to bite the bullet on a 9" or 12 bolt.

8.8 is another option but it doesn't look much cheeper than a 9" or 12 bolt once it is all said and done.

not sure. I have a used posi unit that is in good shape on the way and I am gonna install that in my stock rear end and start gathering parts for 8.8 swap. I will have the 8.8 together by mid Jan and will only consider another 10 bolt just to run a few more times this year.

If the price is right, I can justify installing another 10 bolt but I really hate spending $$$ on something that I KNOW will break soon.

i agree, thats why im looking to get rid of it before it does, give it to some1 with some boltons wanting to go faster.
what the advantage of the 8.8 over the 12 bolt or 9 inch? weight? cheaper?
do you have to have it narrowed?
i just cant see a big money savings after axles, posi unit, gears, and have them set up.
are you going to make all the brackets and stuff for the 8.8?

btw i sent you a message with a few more questions, need to know what heads so i know what size pistons im going to need

It weighs less than the 9" but more than a 12 bolt. More efficient than both. Much more in the terms of aftermarket pieces for the 8.8. It's just all around cheaper to keep maintained and just as strong as the 9 inch in most cases.

It is more of a budget thing that will allow me to hold off on a 9" or 12 bolt until NOS goes on.

Typical 8.8 rear with 3.73 posi is $200 or so.

use stock 10 bolt axles and axle tubes with all mounts and the only tricky part is rigging up TQ arm mount.

Doing all the work myself I can get the rear end in the car for cheep and it will at least have a stronger ring/pinion and posi than a 10 bolt and these are the parts that break more often.

I am NOT interested in doing any more of these and have not even started this project yet so I really do not ahve any idea about how much HELL is involved. I will know alot more in a few months.

Clint is running one and has gone 9.80's at 3450 lbs with stock axles and stock TQ arm.
