i am posting this as a warning to anyone in the dfw/ mid-cities area that there have been numerous break ins at dealerships in the area. i work at grubbs infiniti in euless on 183 and sunday night our dealership was hit hard. they stole two brand new g37 coupes and $3500 of my personal tools, a similar amount of several other technicians tools, many sets of keys, cash and electronics from inside the building. they have been caught on survalence in our g37s breaking into a honda motorcycle dealer just up the road. they have also hit several other dealers in the area. thease guys are bold and wont stop untill there caught. if anyone else knows anything about this please post.

Wow that sucks man! Please tell me the building was insured so they will at least replace your tools. I know some dealerships won't insure the techs tools.

the building was inshured but the tools are not coverd. i dont think that they have hit any park place dealers yet. there are rumors that they caught one guy in one of our cars that was involved.

Thats very bad news, hopefully the shop will make right by you guys. I work for a union shop so part of the contract obligates my employer to insure the technician's tools.

i got a bit of good news this evning, the police have recoverd some of the stolen property including some of my tools. about a grand worth of my stuff. the cops said that there is more but there was so much stuff that they could not bring it all. so hopefully that means i might get the rest back!
the first i knew that my tools were not inshured was when i asked the gm how long it would take the inshurance company to cut a check. the past few days i have been looking into getting an inshurance policy on my tools. i never really thought about it, i have around 15k in my tools thats more than alot of cars. and i never bought inshurance.
i wold sue them but i dont think i would get anywhere they arent the ones who stole my tools. belive me i thought about it.

My company has $20k in insurance for each techs tools. That will cover most of my tools. They want proof of tools though, and I had many of them before moving here and dont have reciepts. They want an inventory, but Im too lazy. I really need to do that.

Lloyd, most people don't sleep in their shop (unless the wife is mad at them!)

From what I've heard, in order to be safest with your tools is to have your SSN on each one. Personally, I've just put the last 4 digits of mine on some of my tools. It's almost impossible to do that to some of the smallest sockets though. But if you have your sockets organized on a rack of some kind then put your info on that. It's better than nothing.

my shop is only about 50 yards from my bed room, lol.

Hopefully the alarm or dogs will wake me up and we can go from there.
