I've been robbed

After the meet up at Sonic, I cruised around with Luis for a while. And while I was out having fun "Road-Comparing" the 3.8L against his Audi TT, somewhere between 2:30 AM and 5:30 AM (when I came home) the passenger door to the Yukon had been pried - along with the driver door.

Novice hit, looked like a casing job. They took the headunit, unbolted the amp from under the pass. seat, and took the twin sub box. Also cut some wires so that the Yukon won't start now.

Crazy thing is, just yesterday, a couple hispanic males about 18 to 21 were parked in MY driveway with a dark red Ford Taurus Station wagon. I was drawn attention to the way they were walking away from the house. Looking very closely at all the cars. Both the Yukon, and the Mustang.

In retrospect, I should have blocked their car in, and gave them a grand inquisition.
I had a gut feeling to take down their plate number, which of course I dismissed as being paranoid..hmph go figure!

So I ask my Mom what they wanted and she said that they never went up to any other house in the culdesac, only ours, and asked if we needed a carwash. Mom thought the whole incident to be weird too.

Man, I know it was them. But I have nothing to go on. Lesson learned though, what harm is it to take down a plate number? Wow inconveniance your life a whole 3 seconds. Listen to your gut instincts. Obviously God put them there for a reason. I dunno at this point if our insurance is going to cover theft, or what the deductible will be. My only chance of a lead, was after filing a report, I had a detective come out and dust for prints, finding a really good print on the blade of a broken knife sitting on the center console (an old knife I had stashed down in the console) Which might have been used as a prying tool.

Ugh. ...and all I wanted to do was sell the darn thing anyway.
If anyone is looking by the way... '92 Yukon - new engine, needs stereo.

So needless to say, we are now installing wireless video survelliance equipment, on 3 sides of the house.

trust the instincts...

That sucks, sorry to hear that. And you're probably right, it was probably those guys , and most likely in a stolen car too. People like that are trash, hopefully they'll end up someone's girlfriend real soon in prison or pushing up daisies.

video rarely works in solving a crime. it's great if you already have a suspect, but it's not wonderful. i've worked burglaries where companies use low light high dollar cameras and they still are useless unless you have a suspect.

the best thing to have are motion lights that rarely go off. at my house, i reinforced everything. i cleared out the excess wood in my door jamb so the dead bolt would throw to its maximum. i changed the 1" screws in the strikeplate to 2 1/2" screws to make it almost impossible to kick. i drilled holes into the top of the window frames where i added a small nail to act as a secondary device to the lock. they will not slide up with the nail in place. the nail can also be easily removed from inside in case of fire. i have motion lights on each front corner of my house. one light from each one shines towards a window and the motion sensor is positioned so they don't go off unless someone is in my yard and at least 5 or more feet from the curb. the light shines on the window so it notifies me when my lights have been activated. the other lights are positioned with one on my driveway and one in my yard. all four sides of my house are covered in lights. i park in the garage, but if i leave my car in the driveway, it is covered by the sensor.

i'd say i'm protected better than most. and it cost me about $30 total.

You've already done what I need to do with my stike plates. That's cool. Cheap cheap insurance.

Although a Camera at night, even with a flood light may not identify a face. All I am hoping for is to get a plate number. At least that gives you something to go on.

The flood light into the window is a good idea. I think I might try that. But since this new house didnt' come with flood lamps, I think we are going to have to call an electrician. I can dance with 110 volt a little bit, but we'll have to go through brick to pull conduit.
Maybe we can work him a deal and re-wire the garage for my massive power needs.

Thanks for the tip!
