i got a speeding ticket yesterday.. have a couple questions..

**in lubbock** i was going 35mph in a 20mph, but the cop followed me for a 1-2 miles before pulling me over, and by then i was in a 30mph zone, i didnt even know the zone before that was 20mph ( i honestly didnt know why i was getting pulled over at first).. anyways, he spelt my last name wrong, do u think i could get it dismissed for that, i heard something about that, also, he pulled me over in a 30mph zone, not 20mph, even tho i guess he saw me speeding in a 20mph? do u think i could get it dismissed for that, ?? i know its some longshots but im always short on $$ so i hate to throw it into a ticket that was honestly an accident in the first place

Call the court and find out what days the cop can't be there ( may be on the ticket)and ask for a continuance....then when that day gets close ask to have it moved to the day the cop will not be there....the clerk will have no idea because she/he will no longer have the ticket....if the cop no-shows..... you just got out of it......tell the judge you were in a 30 mph zone

tell him you were in a 30mph zone...then he will ask why were you driving 35 in a 30

same thing anyhow...it is the same fine if you were speeding 1mph over or 15mph over if I remember right

aslong as the DL# and the car in question matches the license plate on the ticket you are fried...

I highly doubt that ignorance of a law is going to be a solid excuse...suck it up and pay the ticket

I think by law the officer is required to be there if you have a court date.

its not a law but if you take it to court he has to be there in order to testify to the speeding. More than likely he would show up though. It a long shot that way too. My wife is a lawyer so she informed me on most of this stuff. The ticket won;t get dismissed though for the last name spelled wrong or the fact of the speed limit being 30 instead of 20 b/c either way you were still speeding and the fact you would bring that up in court would probably work against you more than help you. Just thought I would add my 2 cents

Take defensive driving. Or ask about defered adjudication.
