Anyone know a place to rent a trailer?

I'll be picking up a 70 Firebird this weekend and wanted to know if there was a place I could rent a trailer to tow it down from marble falls.

Casey, I don't know where you can get a trailer, but I wanted to know if you were still selling those lower control arms? Let me know.

Uhaul. Its pretty cheap if you return it to the same place and just rent per day...

I would go with U-haul since they come with the straps that go over the front wheels. If you rent a flatbed from someone local you will have to either buy your own straps or borrow some.

What are your plans for the 70? that's one of the best looking cars ever made!

Yeah I still have those LCA's, lemme know if you wanna meet up somewhere. I wasn't at last tuesdays sonic meet because I came down with the flu or something. My cell is 367-1829.

And as far as the car goes, I'm hoping to restore it as much as I can. It's supposed to have a straight body but some rust damage and bondo on the roof where the vinyl top used to be. I'll probably put the seats from my '96 into it and maybe the dash if I can find a good write-up on how to put that in there with all the gauges and stuff. And I've got a few friends that go to the School of Automotive Machinists in Houston who will do free machine work to my knocking LT1 so I can cam it, port it, and drop it in there.

I hope it's gonna be as sweet as it sounds.

Sounds like a cool plan on the car, let me know if you need any help sourcing parts, I have some experience in the old school Pontiac game.

Well what I hope to do is make a pro touring type car, and I could use a push in the right direction on how to modify a leaf spring rear suspension to handle well. I've had coils for so long I don't know where to begin.

Wish I could help, but almost all of my cars are coils too. I think you just get them re arched to the rate you need them? What are you doing for a Motor? Please tell me your staying with a real Pontiac Motor......

The motor's out of a '96 Trans Am that I have sitting in my garage. So yes and no.

Oh and I couldn't pick it up last weekend because my dad had a family emergency and took the truck I was gonna use to tow it.

Sounds like a cool plan, should be a fun car when its all done. If this is your first early second gen bird, you need to check out the past few issues of High Performance Pontiac, they have a great breakdown of the differences of the 70-73 birds. Lot's of good info if your starting a project. Let me know if you need copies.

Good luck with the project. I wish my '73 Camaro was making some progress, but it isn't. Other financial issues have gotten in the way, so now it sits all quiet and lonely in my garage...just waiting for me to have time/money for it.

The LT1 will make a good powerplant for the car, but you will need to either transplant the entire wiring harness from your '96 or go with something from painless wiring (or similar).

The rear suspension has lowered leaf springs available thru hotchkiss performance. I think they have a beefy sway bar available too. Kinda pricey tho.

I was looking at some leaf's from Global West for $325.... I'm thinking I'll get the front coils for like $145 and just de-arch the rear until I feel like spending that kind of cash on it.

As far as wheels and tires go: I hear that the front can fit 275/40's on a 17x9.5 with 4.5" backspacing with no rubbing... Can anyone confirm or deny this? I want to have the same size tire all around for easy rotation.

Hey Casey you can check with Texas trailers on Culebra out by 1604 for some good trailers. I rented one this weekend taking my car up to Houston and the rate was $60 for the weekend. If you had it back before Saturday at 1:30pm it's only $35. It's a flatbed trailer and they give you the ramps to get onto the trailer. You'll still have to find some straps but the trailer was solid and it worked well with the car. Good luck on your project.
